I'm converting some code from VB.NET to C#. I have strange behavior in an implemntation of an ArrayList. In VB.NET, the ArrayList is type safe at compile time, where the C# is not type safe at compile time (good). The C# code breaks at run time (bad). Here is the sample code: VB.NET Public Class Country Private _countryName As String Private _capitalName As String

From reading the documentation, this should be a relatively easy thing. I have an arraylist of custom class instances which I want to search with an"indexof" where I'm passing an instance if the class where only the "searched" property has a value. I expected to get the index into the arraylist where I could then get the entire class instance. However, the 'indexof' is never calling my overloaded, overrides Equals method. Here is the...

Our team has just fixed a really nasty problem that appears to be caused by an obscure bug in the sort method of Arraylist and daisy-chained webservice stubs. We've fixed the bug so I'll not investigate any further but there was nothing about it when googling the newsgroups so I am posting a note in case it helps somebody else out. The problem was in a system with a web front end calling through to a chain of 3 webservices i.e.

Hello All: I am writing a function which accepts an ArrayList as its parameter and converts the contents of the ArrayList into an XmlNodeList. The ArrayList will contain one of several different structures. For example, the structures could be either a Customer structure (which contains a customer id and name) or an Address structure (which contains an address type and street number, city, etc). The XmlNodeList is uded to populate a...

I am quite new to ASP and .Net development and I am building a web-based multiple choice exam application. The web page displays the questions using a Repeater control and the answers are nested within the Repeater as RadioButtonLists. Simple enough I think. My data consists of a Question table and an Answer table. The Question table has a QuestionID and a Question field. The Answer table has a AnswerID field, an Answer field and a...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
