I am running VS.net 2005 Express and Sql Server 2005 Express. The DB
and VS are both on the same PC.
I cannot connect to a database from within VS.
In Database Explorer I click Connect To Database to add an existing DB
to the DB Explorer.
In the dialog box I navigate to the MDF of my DB and after I click Test
Connection it takes some 20 seconds before giving the error ..."Error
Locating Server/Instances Specified" (error 26).
However I can access the DB fine using Sql Server Management Studio
Express.
I have followed the advice I got from
http://www.datamasker.com/SSE2005_NetworkCfg.htm and added c# to my
solution to read data from the DB via a SqlDataReader. This works
fine.
However I still can't get at the DB via my Database Explorer.
One link from the above URL mentions Using Visual Studio 2005 to
Connect to SQL Servers by Name but I do not get the option to connect
to a server. I only get the option to connect to a Sql Server DB file
or an Access DB file.
Have anyone any idea what I need to do to be able to see my DB in the
Database Explorer?
TIA,
dave.
