Killing Thread (That do some Extensive Task)

1 New Member
Hi,
I am intantiating thread that do more extensive work, i.e. executing query on FoxPro 2.6 through ODBCDataAdapter with VisualFoxPro driver. Since the query executing is Complex and navigating through 870000 records and taking a time about 2-2.5 minutes. Once the thread is started and goes for data retrival. Meanwhile if I try to close the form. The thread is still running. I have also added code for killing thread in Closing event of form using Abort() method. But it does not kill the thread. Instead the threadstatus returned is AbortRequested.
Please help me in this regard, as Closing event fire the thread should returned and leave the resources. Thanks

Hi, Is there some way that we can reuse a thread by replacing the runnable object of the thread? like a thread is not "alive" anymore, then we remove the runnable object(is it possible????) and then run it again. Thanks you very much Sayoyo

On behalf of the Python development team and the Python community, I'm happy to announce the release of Python 2.3.1 (final). Python 2.3.1 is a pure bug fix release of Python 2.3, released in late July. A number of obscure crash-causing bugs have been fixed, various memory leaks have been squished, but no new features have been added to the language or to the library. For more information on Python 2.3.1, including download links for...

Hello. I am going to write python script which will read python command from socket, run it and return some values back to socket. My problem is, that I need some timeout. I need to say for example: os.system("someapplication.exe") and kill it, if it waits longer than let's say 100 seconds

New to multi-threading (less than 24 hours at it <grin>) Anyway, it's all making sense, and working fairly well thus far, but I'm having a minor issue I'm not sure how to get around. I've got a form that uses SqlDataAdapter. It fires off a thread to fill a DataSet. Not a big deal, this works. I've also got a requirement that the Thread that's going off to do the work -- if it takes too long, it has to

Hi, I need to do some important cleanup before my console application exists. I used the console ctrl event. This is working well and it fires for all cases, including the CTRL_CLOSE_EVENT (if I close the application from the X botton). But on the contrary to what the MSDN indicates (ms-help://MS.VSCC.2003/MS.MSDNQTR.2003OCT.1033/dllproc/base/handlerroutine.htm), ending my process from the task manager did not fire the CTRL_CLOSE_EVENT....

Hello, I've got an issue where a process in a third party application has a dll which while exiting sort of freezes and runs away with processor cycles. i've written a block of code so that I can drill down into the process, and get the offending Thread's ID (since the only ones that will have the issue have higher User processor Time). But, I can't figure out how to have my .Net app 'kill' or 'suspend' a Thread

Hi there, I'm trying to understand the impact of killing a process that owns a system mutex (used to ensure there is only 1 instance of my program running) Here is my code pretty much: try { mutex=new System.Threading.Mutex( true, mutexName, out createdNew)

To whomever it may concern: I am using MS Visual C++ 6.0. I have a process A which instantiates an object C. At a later point the process A creates the thread B. The thread B has access to the object C.

sjdevnull@yahoo.com wrote: <snip> Fair point, but for sub processes that need to be in close contact with the original app, or very small functions that you'd like 100s or 1000s of it seems like a kludge having to spawn whole new processes build in socket communications and kill via explicit OS calls. I can't see that approach scaling particularly well but I guess there's no choice. Does anyone think it likely that the threading...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
