How to deploy optional components

I would like to create a deployment package that will install some
components by default and have other components not be set up to
install by default, similar to how Visual Studio's installer lets you
select if you want Crystal Reports installed or not, or VB/J# support.

If someone could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

I have developed an application that uses the Office Web Components 2003. This application will be deployed to systems that do not have Office or the Web Components installed. The problem that I am encountering is that if the client does not have Office or the Web Components installed, it produces a System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException error. I believe what is happening is that all the necessary files needed to use the Web Components...

I've the following function declaration: wxTree GetLastChild (const wxTree& item, long& cookie) const; I'd like to make the cookie parameter optional, i.e. "long& cookie = ....", without breaking any software using the old API. The implementation looks like wxTree wxTreeListMainWindow::GetLastChild (const wxTree& item, long& cookie) const {

I have a ASP.NET 1.1 project that I want to be able to deploy on my web-servers while they have real traffic (40 requests/second). When I copy the projects assembly in the bin-directory of the website directory the application gets restarted and the web server needs to recompile all my aspx-pages. Because the traffic is high the web server needs to recompile a lot of aspx-pages at the same time. Because of this alot of requests gets...

I am trying to deploy an asp.net application to my web server. My application uses system.data.oledb to connect to an oracle database. On my development machine I have the oracle client 10g installed and my application works. But on the Web server I get the error below. I believe it is because the Oracle client was not installed on the web server. The web server has two drives, our techs installed the oracle client on one drive and my...

I'm trying to use the Office XP PIA in an ASP.NET application. It's working fine on my workstation and I can manipulate a Workbook using Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel. When I try to deploy the application to a server, I get: "System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80040154): COM object with CLSID {00024500-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} is either not valid or not registered." Hi How can I develop a .net application which has optional features? There are many products out there, which give you the option of installing certain features when installing the software. How can I make certain features of my application optional (i.e. that you can choose whether to install them, but the application also works if they are not installed, but the feature is simply not accessible in the latter case). I don't want to...

I develop my application on my dev server and then I deploy it to a customer's production server. I store the db connection string in web.config (is this best practice?). When I deploy I have to open the production web.config and change the connection string to the correct one for production. Now I want my customer to keep their sql server username/password secret. They are unable/unwilling to change the web.config each time I make an...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...
