After upgrading to Windows 2003 SP1 when trying to print a CDC, StartDoc
called on CDC fails (with error code -1) if the process is impersonated with
a restricted user.
This is happening only after upgrading to SP1 and only when the process is
impersonated with a restricted user.
If the spooler is not used ("Start printing immediately" is checked), the
print starts to work.
It seems that Microsoft changed something in 2003 SP1. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../MS05-043.mspx
Any idea how to fix this and still use the spooler? 3 1196
Hi Cosmin,
Thank you posting! It seems that Microsoft changed something in 2003 SP1. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../MS05-043.mspx
Any idea how to fix this and still use the spooler?
yes, the Windows 2003 SP1 matters. I have performed some research on this
issue, it appears the non-local admin account may have some limitations to
access the spooler service after the installation of the Win2003 SP1.
However I am not clear with the Windows 2003 admin issues, I suggest you
consult this problem to a more appropriate Windows specific newsgroup,
you'd get better and quicker help there to find whether there has a
workaround to this issue.
Thanks for your understanding.
Best regards,

Hi Gary,
Thanks for your quick answer. Which newsgroup do you recommend me to post
this problem on? I didn't find a related Windows 2003 group...
Thanks,
Cosmin Popescu

Hi Cosmin,
We don't have a Windows 2003 specific newsgroup. But I suggest you can try
the following ones:
microsoft.publi c.windows.serve r.general
microsoft.publi c.windows.serve r.security
Thanks!
Best regards,
Gary Chang

I wrote a monitoring program for IIS servers ( each Site under the IIS
/service/ is known as a *server* ).
This code (below) works on w2k, but not on w2003 and I think it might
just be naming conventions.
In w2k, each new site is indexed in active directory like:
W3SVC/1
W3SVC/2

Hi All,
I have COM dll developed in VB.6 that exposes a method to print a word
document. The method accepts the name of the printer and the fully
qualified name of the document to be printed. In the DLL, it loops through
the printers collection to check if the printer name is valid and sets the
requested printer as default printer. Secondly it uses late binding for
Word Application and prints the document on the default printer.

I have an ASP.NET application that refuses to honor the RedirectFromLogin() method of
FormsAuthentication.
What happens is, when I try to access a restricted page, the login page gets brought up, I enter a
username and password, which are validated, and then the redirect gets called.
Unfortunately, the redirect lands me right back on the login page! And when I check
User.Identity.Name on that "failed redirect", the username is blank, as...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
