I have a file which has no BOM and contains mostly single byte chars. There
are numerous double byte chars (Japanese) which appear throughout. I need to
take the resulting Unicode and store it in a DB and display it onscreen. No
matter which way I open the file, convert it to Unicode/leave it as is or
what ever, I see all single bytes ok, but double bytes become 2 seperate
single bytes. Surely there is an easy way to convert these mixed...

Both vDataIn and vDataOut are Objects (parameters to a function-call),
and vDataIn contains a string, and that is also what vDataOut must

first question... I have a flat file which unfortinuatly has columns
seperated by nulls instead of spaces (a higher up company created it this
way for us) is there anyway to do a readline with this and not have it
affected by the null? because it is right now causes truncated data at wierd
places... but as soon as i manually with a hex editor change char(00) to
char(20) in the files it reads prerfectly... which leads me to my 2nd...

My Friends:
I am using std::ofstream (as well as ifstream), I hope that when i
wrote in some std::string(...) with locale, ofstream can convert to
UTF-8 encoding and save file to disk. So does ifstream.
Something I found shows that, I need to have a proper codecvt to set
it. I need more information, maybe a small piece of code sample. Thank
you!

My situation is this: I have a Sybase database which is firing back ISO-8559 encoded strings. I am unable to get the db to translate to UTF-8 for non technical reasons.
So I have a string coming back with the character œ (ISO value 156). this character appears in .NET as a box character because 156 is not a valid Unicode character value.

I'm looking for the fastest way to convert an array of bytes to String. I
also need to convert a String back to its original Byte() representation.
Convert.ToBase64String and Convert.FromBase64String seem like the closest
thing I can find to what I'm looking for baked into the base class library.

I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
