Odbc<< Oledb?

Hi all,

I have a assignment of vc++.net and sybase to populate data and
generate reports which is the best one?
is OLEDB more efficient than ODBC? i think OLEDB itself is a layer on
the ODBC..then how it can be?
Thanks,
RAM

ODBC is a WIN32 based DB agnostic data access API
ODLEDB is a COM based DB agnostic data access API

Whether one is layered on top of the other depends on the concrete
implementations . AFAIK the early versions of the SQL Server OLE DB provider
have been layers on top of the SQL Server ODBC driver, but that is long long
ago. What you may think of is the OLEDB provider for ODBC, which is in fact
a bridge provider, but you are not forced to use it. If you choose a DB
specific OLE DB provider, chances are very good that it is a native one (not
layered on another DB api). Ask the developer of the provider if you need to
make that sure.

Have you contacted Sybase and asked them what they recommend? Typically the
best and most up to date technologies are provided by the DBMS vendor. They
should be able to tell you what's best for your application.

Hello! We have following situation; network with 100 users, aplication developed in Access, user DB deployed on SQL Server. Is it better to create query inside aplication (with code) and then pass it to SQL Server for execution or is it better to have all these queries saved like stored procedures and then called from aplication?

Been using the ODBC module for Python 2.1 (Win32) and had another question. When I return data from date columns, it's in a strange object form, e.g. <something or other> (don't have the output in front of me>. What's an easy way to convert date objects into a human-readable string? I'm using this module to extract data from an Oracle database, then converting it to a flat-file for import into an old flat-file database on a mainframe. I...

Hi I'm not sure if this should go here in the first place, this is more likely an ODBC driver issue. I'm having the strangest behavior when trying to do an insert into an access database from a C++ application, thru ODBC. I'm able to successfully open a connection to the DB and perform selects, but when I try to do an insert the strangest thing happens, ODBC throws an error saying that it can't open the "dba.mdb" file, which is not the db...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
