System.NullRefe renceException passing var to web service proxy class

Ted
Would someone tell me why I am getting:

"An unhandled exception of type 'System.NullRef erenceException ' occurred in
microsoft.visua lbasic.dll. Additional information: Object variable or With
block variable not set" on this line of code:

lbitemSel = ws.GetImageFile (ListBox1.Selec tedItem.GetType .ToString())

My client code with correct Syntax is:

Dim ws As New GetImageApp.loc alhost.Service1 , dimeAttachment As
Microsoft.Web.S ervices.Dime.Di meAttachment, lbitem As String

lbitemSel = ws.GetImageFile (ListBox1.Selec tedItem.ToStrin g())

When I try it this way I get a syntax error: "Too many arguments to Public
Function ws.GetImageFile ()" when I try it in this way:

Dim lbitemSel As String

lbitemSel = ListBox1.Select edItem.ToString ()

ws.GetImageFile (lbitemSel)

My Web Service object is WS with strLbItemSel declared as a string:

Public Function GetImageFile(By Val lbItemSel As String)

thx,

Ted

Hello all, I am writing a script where I need to use the system() function to call htpasswd. I can do this just fine on the command line...works great (see attached file, test.php). When my webserver runs that part of the script (see attached file, snippet.php), though, it doesn't go through. I don't get an error message or anything...it just returns a "1" (whereas it should return a "0") as far as I can tell. I have read the PHP...

Hello, I'm currently developing a web service that retrieves data from an employee table. I would like to send and retrieve a custom employee class to/from the webservice. I have currently coded the custom employee class and have built it as a separate library (employee.dll). This employee.dll is being referenced by both the web service and the windows application. I face the following problem when I send this class to the webservice.

System.InvalidOperationException: WebServiceBindingAttribute is required on proxy classes. My environment: Visual Studio 2005, targeting FX 2.0; I've developed a Web Service which uses DIME to transfer file attachments to and from the server. I'm using WSE 2.0 SP3 which is supposed to support FX 2.0, as far as I know. (We will soon move on to MTOM, however I'm stuck with DIME for now; the solution was originally written for FX 1.1, and I...

<!-- When deploying the service library project, the content of the config file must be added to the host's app.config file. System.Configuration does not support config files for libraries. --> I assume "libraries" here to mean DLL's. If that's the case, is there any way to supply both ends of a service (client and host) with the code for the class that describes the contact WITHOUT a duplication in source code? Thanks.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
