asp.net master pages problem

I'm experiencing a weird problem with master pages in VS 2005 - in short
when the master page is open in design view in visual studio all other
webforms that use that master display correctly when opened in design view.
However, if the master page is not open in design view, then webforms opened
in design view don't display correctly at all. Here are the specifics:

My master page has the following lines of html:

<head runat="server" id="HeaderTag" >
<title>Untitl ed Page</title>
<link href="~/Content/CSS/MenuStyles.css" runat="server" rel="stylesheet "
type="text/css" />
<link href="~/Content/CSS/TemplateSetting s.css" runat="server"
rel="stylesheet " type="text/css" />
<link href="~/Content/CSS/TextStyles.css" runat="server" rel="stylesheet "
type="text/css" />
<link href="~/Content/CSS/PresentationSty les.css" runat="server"
rel="stylesheet " type="text/css" />
</head>

And the following in Page_load:

BodyTag.Control s.Add(New LiteralControl( "<script type=""text/javascript""
src=""" & Request.Applica tionPath & "/Content/Includes/glfunctions.js" "/>"))

As specified above, if I open the master page itself in design view, and
then open another page, there are no problems, the styles are applied fine.
If however, I don't open the master page then when any page that is built on
that master is opened, none of the styles are applied and the page comes out
looking totally wrong.

Any ideas why this is happening?

Thanks, Nick

Hello, In classic ASP, I used to use two include files on each page, one before and one after the main content, to provide a consistent layout across a web site. That way I could just change the include files to change the layout. When I came to ASP.NET, I used user controls to do a similar thing. I have just been looking at master pages, and it looks like they do the same thing. If so, is there any advantage in using them over the...

I am writing an ASP.NET 2.0 application that uses more than one master page. Currently, there are two pages, Freedom1.master and Freedom2.master. I have no problems with Freedom1.master. However, I am having problems with Freedom2.master. The first problem is I sometimes get the following error when I build the site. The type 'Freedom2' exists in both 'c:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\Temporary ASP.NET

Hi, all: I have a problem with the inclusion of .js files in mu .aspx pages when using Master Pages. I try to explain it. If I make a web project without master pages I simply put in the head tag on each page the reference to the ..js file I want to use. Because I want client side includes I make the reference with <script> tag, for example: <head runat=server> <script src="/javascript/test.js" /> </head>

I hope I can explain this well enough to understand. I have a master page that is used by almost all of the pages in my site. On the master page is a table. In one of the cells in this table, I have set the background to display an image that is located in a directory called "images" which is just off the root directory. Here's the problem: Any page that is not located in the root directory (where the master page is located) cannot...

Thinking of creating a website, most of the pages will have a general toolbar menu, a content and a footer. The content will be the only one who's gonna change but the rest (header,footer) will remain the same. I am interested to know your opinions/suggestions in finding an easy way of doing it. In asp one could have something like this:

Hi, I want to use 2 master pages, one for the main part of the site, the other for the admin pages. They are quite similar, with many shared elements. Ideally I would like to have a parent master page, which both of these child master pages are based on, and in turn the final pages are based on one of these child master pages.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
