Icon created in VS.NET 2003 doesn't work.

Hi - I created an icon in VS.NET 2003. I did nothing more than Project->
New Item->Icon File and then used the paint tools to draw it. Then I saved
the file.

In Windows Explorer, the icon is not displayed next to the file. Just what
appears to be the default icon that appears when you select the Icon File
template from the Add New Item dialog.

If I include the icon in an image-list, the same thing happens.

If I use Pixel Toolbox (a bit of freeware icon creation s/w) to create an
icon and save it, Explorer displays it correctly and so does the image list
object.

Is Pixel Toolbox doing something that I must explicitly do in VS.NET or is
VS.NET broken?

Thanks for any help,

Cheers,
..pd.

The icon is probably available in several different resolutions. Check
that the icon you draw is the same reslution as used by your desktop.

Hi, I have a form with a tray icon. However, when I minimize the form, it stays visible - not in the task bar (I have showintaskbar property set to false), but in a form of a rectangle sitting above the task bar. Can't figure out why that happens - it looks very ugly... Any ideas ? Zeljko

There are a number of things about using unmanaged resources in Windows Forms programming that is unclear to me. In C++, if you loaded an icon resource using "ExtractIcon()", the resource was valid until you called "DestroyIcon()". If you didn't, you had a leak. In C#, I need to load icons from unmanaged programs (.exe, dll) at run time...

Sorry for the repost, but this has been driving me mad for the past few days. There must be a simple solution. There are many other posts about this problem upon an application exit, but my problem is slightly different as my application does exit....... I have a tray icon that wont disappear after calling trayIcon.visible = false;

The following program simply sets the icon of a form called form1. When I get the name of the embedded icon using GetManifestResourceNames(), I store the name in a string variable called s. The value of s is "test2.icon1.ico". This program will compile and run just fine from visual studio .net 2003 using .net 1.1 and also will compile and...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows.
