I have a setup project and I am adding registry entries in my setup.
For one of my regitry entries I need to assing the value of the path.
When I put the value of my registry as \mypage.htm
when I install my app, the value is simply set as "\mypage.htm" without the
path of the application folder.
If I also need to run a batch file as one of the Custom Action, my main
problem is ... within my batch file I need to register my dll, so I...

Hi,
I am trying to create an installer for my web application. So I added a
web setup project to my solution (I am using VS.NET 2003). Been playing
around with it since then and it basically works.
Now, I am wondering if there is any way to change the directory that
the installer installs the files to. I want to be able to put my files
in a specified directory (user specified is good, but i don't mind
hardcoding the path either) and...

I created a CustomAction for this but I don't think I have it in the right
place. I tried both Install and Commit but neither allow it to get to the
final screen.
Are there any examples of this anywhere?
Thanks,
Joe

Hi all,
Here's some work in progress that should allow you to run a batch file as a
custom action in a VS deployment project. Yup I know you can use js or wsh,
but the target may not have either.. Essentially it's just a wrapper for the
Process class and a command interpreter.
Warning, it only partly works. I had wanted to pass in
(a) The name of the batch file (through "BatchFileName"), and

hi,
I would like to register a dll (regasm) during the execution of my
setup using custom actions.
I don't know where to place the parameters for regasm in the custom
action.
I tried using " \myAssembly.dll " but regasm.exe didn't run
during the execution of the setup.
regasm <myAssembly.dll/codebase

I have a .sql script that holds the configuration of a local sql express
database needed for my C# .net forms app. I would like the script to run.
Right now, I have a install_db.cmd file that basically just runs the sql
script from the command line. I made a console app that runs the
install_db.cmd
I added that console app to the application folder and then ran that as a
custom action. The command windows pops up real quick, but then...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
