Running Versions 7.X and *.X on Windows 2000.
We experienced very slow response times for some admin functions
executed via the command line and the GUI. for example "db2 list
tablespaces" was taking over a minute to return a list of 100
tablespaces. Noticed that delays only occurred if the auth log-on was
an NT domain ID in a local group(using DB2_GRP_LOOKUP=LOCAL).
Response times were fine for locally defined auth ids. I checked the...

I've written a basic windows service to provide some helper xml functions for
my web methods and even thou the service is only about 1k lines long with 1
timer, its mem usage is 10m and its vm mem usage is 14! The same code written
as a program that requires you to click on the menu options to fire off the
events takes up 4/9mb.
I've seen examples where calling SetProcessWorkingSetSize(hWnd, -1, -1); does
the same thing as minimizing a...

I'm reposting this because I really need some advice.
I have a web app that makes many queries to the database on every page. In
order to save development effort, I've consolidated all database querying to
methods in a single static class, so whenever I need data, I pass a SQL
string to a method and I am passed a datareader or else individual values
(string, integer, etc).
There is a horrible memory leak in this application. Just one...

Dear all,
I built a Web Form application to start and stop a Windows Service remotely.
I successful tested the application on Windows 2000 server + IIS. I must
include the ASPNET user
to the Administration group (on server side) to have the necessary
authorization to start a Windows Service (I don't understand why "Power
User" rights are not enough to do the same thing)
Although I'm able to start a service using windows 2000 server...

I am trying to use windows authentication on an intranet to call a web
service. When I make my first call to the service after connecting
from a client app using:
ws.Url = ServiceUrl;
ws.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials;
ws.UnsafeAuthenticatedConnectionSharing = true;
It takes forever (2-3 minutes) and my mem usage for aspnet_wp.exe
balloons from 2,952K to 586,264K and stays there.

We are having issues with our windows services using memory and never
releasing it. We have one service that has a file watcher which takes an xml
file, inserts some records into a database, and creates a bunch of PDFs with
Crystal Reports. Another service is a remote object which serves as our data
access component -- basically it just executes stored procedures and returns
datasets. If you watch the services in task manager, you can...

Hi all,
I'm having a baffling problem with a windows service that I'm working on.
Basically, I am using a typed dataset to insert a large number of rows
into an SQL Server 2005 database. But there's a memory leak that seems
to be to do with calling the data adapters update method. It's making
the memory usage go through the roof and ultimately the service crashes
after running out of memory.

I have a ASP.NET web page that calls a web service on a server with IIS
installed on it. When it calls the web service, it gives a HTTP status 401
error stating that it is unauthorized to call the web service. After
searching the Microsoft Knowledge Base, article ID 811318 describes my exact
problem. However, when I try to implement the stated solution, I still
receive the same error.
Basically if I add the following line of code, it...

Hello
Machine: Windows Vista Business, standalone machine (no domain).
Installed an old classic ASP webapplication in IIS7, running under a new app.pool with 'NETWORK SERVICE' account (using existing app.pool gives same results).
This webapplication tries to write to a log file.
Used Process Monitor (from Sysinternals) for monitoring purposes.
Logged in to my machine as 'MYPC\danny', a local account that's a member of the administrators...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.

Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
