I was at a job interview one day and the owner of the start up company asked
me if I'd rather make $1000 dollars a day, or start off with a penny a day
and double the amount every day for 30 days. I was too lazy to sit down with
paper and pen to figure out how much the second choice came out to. But now
I'm learning python and just learned about recursive functions and
iteration, I figured I'd use those theories to figure out the problem....

Hi,
I am writing a program in VB.NET and it is very slow when it reach this
line :
Dim ipHostInfo As IPHostEntry = Dns.Resolve(strMyForeignIP)
It stay there at least 5 seconds to reach the foreign host, how can it
be fast (instant)? With winsock (in VB6) it is instant connection.

Hi,
I have a serious issue using multithreading. A sample application
showing my issue can be downloaded here:
http://graphicsxp.free.fr/WindowsApplication11.zip
The problem is that I need to call operations on Controls from a
delegate, otherwise it does not work. However each time I've done an
operation, I must update the progressbar and progresslabel, but this
cannot be done in the delegate as it does not work.

I have a request of Microsoft and I hope they see this.
I use Visual Studio 2005 Pro and WIN XP Pro with IIS 5.1
I have spent the better part of the last 2 weeks attempting to get my
ASP.NET projects to work. Just a simple hello world.
Since installing the 2.0 of the framework, localhost no longer works on IIS.
localhost is required for (at least it appears so) for the ASP.NET
development server to function. Actually I take that...

Hi, I've been thinking about Python vs. Lisp. I've been learning
Python the past few months and like it very much. A few years ago I
had an AI class where we had to use Lisp, and I absolutely hated it,
having learned C++ a few years prior. They didn't teach Lisp at all
and instead expected us to learn on our own. I wasn't aware I had to
uproot my thought process to "get" it and wound up feeling like a
moron.
In learning Python I've...

DNS.GetHostByAddress runs very slow for foreign IPs.
I heard that DNS.BeginResolve can make asynchronous IP to Host resolve.
Can anyone provide me an example of VB.NET code that would make asynchronous
DNS.beginResolve call?
I need it to make a try to resolve the IP to HOST and to quit if it's taking
longer than 5 seconds.

This is the second time I am asking this question in this newsgroup
since I haven't got a solution or response from anyone in my previous
post & I need to resolve this issue desperately. Sorry for the double
post but I just didn't have any other option other than re-posting the
same question in this newsgroup.
Consider the following code in a VB class file:
Namespace LoginUserFetchDB
Public Class ZForZebra : Inherits SoapHeader

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
