expiring the persistent cookies of FormsAuthentica tion.RedirectFr omLoginPage

Hi,

I used following procedure to created the cookies:-
FormsAuthentica tion.RedirectFr omLoginPage(Int ToStr(BizCustom erID),
wchkRememberLog in.Checked);

I found that the setting on web.config :-
<authenticati on mode="Forms">
<forms loginUrl="CustL ogin.aspx" protection="All " name="Customer" path="/"
timeout="60" />
</authentication>
where the timeout have no effect at all, for what I have tested [I changed
the system time to try on expiring of cookies]....
Why my test result is the persistent cookies never expire ?? Is that valid?

TIA

regards,
benny ;)

Hi, I better get the background stuff out the way first, so here goes: - Porting a VB6 webclass app to VB.NET using HttpHandlers and FormsAuthentication - When someone visits my site unbeknown to them they are automatically logged in as a guest via the .NET forms authentication.

I recently found out that my authentication cookies are not expiring even though I have set the persist property to false. As a result, users are able to access the secure websites with indifferent results. Any pointers/suggestions would be very appreciated. Things were running as usual till until recently. Here are the relevant pieces of code ==========================================

I'm using Forms authentication and a non persistent cookie in my asp.net application. How do i get the cookie to time out after a period of inactivity, say 10 minutes, and force the user to login again? If I close the browser, the next time I use the application, it makes me log in - and That's fine. However if I keep the browser session open, it keeps my login valid for as long as the browser is open - I want it to time out. Specifying...

Hi all, I'm testing ASP.NET 1.1 authentications and cookies features, and I've red tons of tutorials and articles about this, but not all is clear for me. My goal is to create a basic site with authentication process, like my other ASP 3.0 sites that I developed with classical session variables to follow each user with some personal data (like role, e-mail address, preferences, ect.).

Hello everyone, I didn't get any response in "Security" forum hence posting here again. I am having problem with persistent cookies. Even after setting "CreatePersistentCookie" to true in "FormsAuthentication.SetAuthCookie" I'm being logged out after the specifed timeout provided in "forms" element of web.config. I read somewhere that lifetime of persistent cookies depend on the timeout

I'm using the 2.0 login control with the "remember me" setting. When checked the cookie only last for a few hours then it is asking again for a login. I don't see any time settings. I know back when we did our own authentication we specified FormsAuthentication.RedirectFromLoginPage(tbEmail.Text, True) and the cookie lasted forever. -- Regards, Gary Blakely

I have a typical ASP.NET 2.0 Forms authentication application which authenticates against Active Directory. I use non-persistent cookie so that the user is NOT remembered across browser sessions. The timeout is set to 10 minutes. Here is the important code snippets that I took from my original code: string roleToCheck = .....; FormsAuthenticationTicket ticket = new FormsAuthenticationTicket(1, member.UserName, DateTime.Now,...

Hi, I am exploring the possibility of using the MSAccess provider for membership, etc. All is working well, including being able to use it for webparts, user authentication, etc. I can create users, change passwords, request the password (I am currently using "Clear" as the password format, and when I drop the LoginStatus control onto the form it shows the correct status However, I am struggling with the login control and the use of...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
