I'm investigating the feasibility of using Python instead of Visual
Basic for a commercial software package that I'm planning on developing.
Now I'm absolutely a Python zealot. I use it for most of my software
development at work where I work in a Solaris environment. To me,
Python is the perfect language for most applications in a UNIX
environment where a compiled language is not required. However, I'm not
so sure about Windows.
The...

The good news:
Along with Python-2.4 comes really good news to Windows users. Yes,
you now CAN build extension modules yourself using the SAME C++
compiler and linker Python is built with itself. Everything you need
is available at no costs (except download hassle and installation
time). Once your system is set up properly its just a matter of
running 'python setup.py build'. No longer waiting for someone else to
build binaries and a...

I am unable to deploy a small .Net solution on an Nt 4.0
Platform . I am relatively new to VB. Is there any way to
build this app for NT using Visual Basic .Net Standard.
The Configuration Manager only shows .NET under platform.
Is there something I didn't load or am I missing something?
Any information would be helpful.

I am developing an application where I need to secure a
workstation for periods of time. I can use BlockInput to
stop users from task switching or messing with the
keyboard, but I would like to disable Ctrl-Alt-Delete.
It seems there seems to be only one real way I know
about: Write a replacement Gina Driver to eat the
keyboard events I dont want. Does anyone have a good
template for this in Visual Basic .Net?

I just got myself a Visual Basic.Net compiler, and I'm looking for books to
help me learn. Specifically, I'm a very experienced programmer (going back
to 1968), I'm pretty accomplished in VBA for Excel (user forms, etc.), and
I've written a lot of different languages. On the other hand, I never have
gotten the hang of Visual C++. Being able to interact with the internet is a
secondary consideration.
Thanks in advance for any...

Okay, all you VB6 developers--time's up. As of March 2005, Microsoft no
longer supports this version of Visual Basic. And you can't blame them.
Three years ago, they introduced the .NET Framework--an elegant,
powerful platform--along with the new component-based VB.NET language.
But roughly five million of you decided to stick with VB6, mostly to
maintain...

Hi. When I try to run Visual Studio 2003 I get the message "MS development
environment is not installed for the current user. Please run setup to
install the application."
Is there any way to work around this without reinstalling VS 2003?
Also, can VS 2003 and VS 2005 coexist?

I took Pascal and BASIC in a couple of beginner programming courses about a
decade ago and did well with them. I am good with pseudocode, algorithms,
and the mathematics of programming. I decided I should perhaps learn a
more powerful language to program my own apps. I got a "Beginning C" book,
but the C programs won't compile in the free compilers I have downloaded.
The syntax is different. I guess I have to buy a programming package,...

Hi there
My compay has a number of Visual Basic 6 applications which are front endeed onto
either SQL Server or Microsoft Access databases.
Now we are in process of planning to re-write these applications into Visual Basic.Net.
My managers main thought is that Visual Basic 6 is (or has!) stopped being supported
by Microsoft.

I am currently migrating my Visual C++ 6.0 applications to Visual Studio
2005. I am getting compiler errors involving the VS2005's platform SDK.
When I removed directory references to that SDK, and started using the
Microsoft Platform SDK for XP SP2, the errors disappeared, but I am now
getting numerous warnings (macro redefinitions) as follows:
StdAfx.cpp
WINVER not defined. Defaulting to 0x0502 (Windows Server 2003)

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...
