Please advise on how to implement a web service to return Dataset

I'm new to web services, to honest I have never used them before. I need to
create a web service that will be located on a web server and called from a
winform application. The web service will contain a web method that should
return a dataset by executing a stored procedure on the web server. Can
anyone point me in the right direction as to how to implement such a web
server to return a dataset by executing a stored procedure on a server
Database. The web method will need to be able to connect to both SQL and
Oracle, I gather I will use OLEDB for that. Any advice, article, sites,
tutorial or snippets....any thing..... would be greatly appreciated. Not sure
where to start to accomplish this.
Thank you.

In my application, ADO.NET DataSet object is not getting constructed in the Web Service Web Method called by the Windows Application passing an ADO.NET DataSet Object as a parameter to the Web Method in Web Service Debugging using the Soap Extensions, clearly shows that the Serialized DataSet is passed to the Web Service, but the Web Service Web Method is not

Hi, I have an web service method that accept an xml document and returns a different xml document. Based on the input xml I fill a dataset with information from a database. If the dataset has rows then I need to return those rows to the consumer. Hi All My Web Service is returning a DataSet. I realized that we cannot return a DataReader.. Normally we can use a DataReader( when not using Web services) and access it as below to assign values of columns of returned rows to Labels in the client aplication such as: while (dtrJobDetails.Read()) { l_shortjobdesc.Text = dtrJobDetails.ToString();

The Internal Web Service Returns a Dataset of Addresses from a SQL Table The External Webservice has the added reference to the Internal Service and needs to have this dataset passed to it and return that to the client application.

Hello, I created a Web Service using .Net 2.0 that has a function that returns a DataTable. I can test the function from the web page when I access the .asmx from a browser on localhost and it works. I can also test the function using VB6 and the xmlhttp activex object. The problem I have now is when using VS 2005 or VB.Net 2005 Express and creating a web references is that the proxy created doesn't map the function as returning a DataTable...

Hi all, I'm having a baffling problem with a windows service that I'm working on. Basically, I am using a typed dataset to insert a large number of rows into an SQL Server 2005 database. But there's a memory leak that seems to be to do with calling the data adapters update method. It's making the memory usage go through the roof and ultimately the service crashes after running out of memory.

Hello, I've come here to get some advise from the experts. Currently I am tasked with modifying a web service that currently supports one product to support multiple products. It needs to be backwards compatible so other products still work with the same method calls and the new products need to have methods with the same names, but different logic. Currently we keep some credential information from the client that consumes the...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
