BSTR conversion

Below is a class method that puts a new string
in place of the old one!

I am new to this environment!
But if I am in the write area to begin with!
I am trying to iterate thru the string passed to this
method! Encrypt it and put it back into newVal.

Maybe a for/next or loop here around newVal.
I would like to rebuild the string(newVal)
character by character to a new string!
and put an encypted string in it's place.
Your help is greatly appreciated!!!
John

STDMETHODIMP Cwmlclass::put_ Encrypt(BSTR newVal)
{

//poor code below!
newVal = _bstr_t("test") ;
//myEncryptPwd is my return string
myEncryptPwd = newVal;
return S_OK;
}

I am not sure if this is the right newsgroup. But does anyone know what is the difference between a BSTR and a LPOLESTR? The only thing I could find out is that the advantage of taking BSTR instead of LPOLESTR is that determining the length of a BSTR is much faster.

I use C# in .NET framework. I have an ActiveX implemented in C++ that has a COM interface method that gets as it’s out parameter a BSTR* . The interop translates this BSTR* into C# string. From my managed code, I am calling that function with ‘out’ parameter of ‘string’ type. For normal size strings it works fine, but when the string is very big (> 50,000 bytes), I get a null exception from the COM interop. What is the reason?...

I am trying to iterate thru the string put here, newVal. I want to loop thru a variable length string and rebuild an encrypted string that gets passed back to newVal. I have a C++ function in a DLL of the form BSTR WINAPI DoSomeWork(LPCSTR szConnection, LPCSTR szGUID) I use SysAllocStringByteLen to return a BSTR. For the most part this works accept when the calling applicaiton tries to free the BSTR and I get a RtlFreeHeep error. I'm guessing because the bstr has been allocated in one dll and it being released in another.

We have server components which were created by a third party and compiled in VC++5 (sp3). They run fine on NT4 and 2000, however during testing of our migration to Server 2003, these components have been failing when performing Data Access functions. In particular we have been having problems with BSTR and _bstr_t. _bstr_t(BSTR*, 1) is the original code that the problem started with. Other findings are - 1) Converting a BSTR* to a...

In win32 mode, a BSTR was UINT length prefixed and terminated exactly by a zero char. So if you allocated "Hello World" that would allocate 28 bytes. In x64 and (IA64 as well) it would become 32 bytes, because of the fact that a pointer, is 8 bytes instead of 4 bytes. The length prefix -still- is a UINT however and not a UINT_PTR.

Hi, Lets say I write this line: BSTR b = m_pdoc->Getxml (); where m_pdoc is MSXML2::IXMLDOMDocumentPtr. Now "b" contains the xml text. When I exit the function in which this line is written, do I have to take care about deleting "b"? And how do I do it ? Regards,

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
