Deploying a windows service created in VC++ 7.0 (unmanaged code)

Hi,

There is a project requirement to create an installer for a windows service created in VC++ 7.0 unmanaged code. Can any one guide to a link or working sample as to where I can get the references to creating a installer for the windows service.

This windows service is required to be installed and started, before other files in my installed can be installed.
Tool used: VS .NET 2003 (Deployment projects)
I was using the VS.NET 2003 IDE and the windows service installer will be in the form a merge module which will be included before my application installer starts installing the core application files.

Hi, Currently, I have a console application written in C# and an unmanaged legacy DLL written in VC++ 6.0. In the DLL's previous application, when an event occurs in the DLL, a windows message would be sent to the host GUI application via PostMessage to WM_USER + X. The GUI application would then execute a function to retrieve data from the DLL. With this new setup, I have a console application as the host. I retrieved the handle...

I've written a Windows Service program that monitors a directory using the FileSystemWatcher class. The monitoring is done on it's own thread. Once a particular files gets added(created) to the directory, the program calls a routine using ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem(New WaitCallback(AddressOf module.sub)). That routine creates an object of another class. The problem is that classes' Finalize method is not called until the Windows Service is...

Hello, I have written a windows service and created an installer for it. The service runs under the system accounts. When started, it launches a GUI. By default, the InteractiveProcess property of the service is not set (this can be checked by right-clicking on the service in the Services window (Admin tools>Services), choosing Properties, LogOn tab). In order to enable my service to launch a GUI at startup, I added the following lines...

I have a C++ COM based windows service which have more than 30k lines of code and which is stablized over years. We need to take the advantage of the ..NET framework for this project, especially the GUI for this service and the other windows non gui .NET clients. What's the best migaration pattern for us considering not to rewrite the thousands of lines of code. The question i have are the follows.

My friend told me that his company will migrate the VC++ win32 applications to C++ .NET windows applications. I don't understand why since currently Microsoft only supports .NET on windows platforms. If Win32 applications and .NET application both will run on windows only, what's the advantages for the migration? Or maybe this type of migration is not common in practice?

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
