Sorry if this is off topic for this group, but I couln't find any place
better for directing question on Windows API programming. Here's the
problem, I am calling the SetDlgItemText() function to set the text of an
edit box for an about window for my program. For some weird reason though it
won't work, and the GetLastError function gives a Control ID not found
error. I am sure that the parameters are correct so I'm at a loss as to the...

Ok, now I'm officially confused. I have a large project going, which
uses a win32 ui library I am developing myself. And I'm getting weird
memory leaks. I don't know if I can explain what is going on, but I
really need some help on this one.
Ok, so I have this class defined (written by Randy Charles Morin,
www.kbcafe.com) which detects memory leaks. It creates a memory check
point in the constructor, and another in the destructor, and...

I am trying to write a program that I hope to get working as a
command-line app to start with, and then eventually use a windows
service wrapper to call it as a service. Its purpose is to attach
to an already running (not ours) service using an API DLL, where
it will do houskeeping and monitoring tasks.
This is where it all gets strange. Although I can make calls into
the API and do things proactively, when I register a callback for...

Hi,
sometime the following line produces an exception:
((CMessageDialog*)vec->at(0))->EndDialog(1);
Now I want to catch this Exception, tried it with c++ and mfc exception
handling, like:
C++ in MFC
try
{
((CMessageDialog*)vec->at(0))->EndDialog(1);

Hi
I am having an issue with a window I am creating - in its wndproc, if I call
PostMessage(hWnd, WM_QUIT, 0, 0) in response to WM_DESTROY, then GetMessage
returns a non-zero value and the loop carries on. But if I post quit message
in response to WM_CLOSE - it works fine!
I thought you were supposed to post WM_QUIT in response to WM_DESTROY though?

Please excuse this elementary question...but I am just dumb....
I have taken a simplistic Dialog Box and added a Progress Control.
When I did that, my Dialog Box was no longer able to intialize using the
DialogBox macro.
If I remove the Progress Control from the form, the form displays
appropriately.
Is there something that needs to be done in addition to providing a callback

I checked my color printers's Printersettings.SupportsColor, which all
showed false. What is wrong that I could not use this property.
Also, what other way to detect if a printer is color printer.
TIA

Hello,
I found this little code which basicly writes any keystroke to the app
window, however, it only works for the app window. I wanted to modify
it to work when any window is focused, just like key logger.
I'm too new to C++ to figure out this by myself.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

We have an application that is supposed to run as a service. When someone shuts down the computer, the app is supposed to save the contents of the screen into a file so it can be loaded back up when the computer comes back on.
So my question is, does shuting down the computer send a WM_DESTROY message to the program if it is being run as a service? If not, why not?
Thanks!

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
