I have uncovered an interesting problem with resource only DLLs. If I
create a project with a long name and the name includes periods ("."), the
IDE will fail to kick off the linker. The resource compiler seems to
successfully compile the .rc to a .res, but the linker never fires up. If I
force a link, the DLL will be created but will contain no resources.
An example project name that fails to link is
"My.Long.Named. Resource.Only.P roject". If I rename the project to
"MyLongNamedRes ourceOnlyProjec t" or "My.Test", I get the resource only DLL
as expected.
Is this a bug in VS.net 2003? 2 1217
Hi John,
Thanks for posting in the community.
From my understanding that your project (resource only DLL) with a long
name (including periods".") cannot be linked, am I right?
Currently I am looking for resource to assure this problem. We will reply
here with more information as soon as possible.
If you have any more concerns on it, please feel free to post here.
Thanks!
Best regards,
Gary Chang

Hey all,
I have come across the following issue. I have an application written
with Borland C++ Builder, this application loads dlls(plug-ins)
dynamically during run time. To make things easier for my users, I am
trying to make it possible for them to create dlls in C++ Builder
(which works great) and VC++. I tried to use the same code in VC++
builder, which compilled fine, but during runtime I came across a
problem. First of all, this is...

Hi Friends,
I'm facing a situation as follows, need help on identifying possible issues.
There is an MFC application developed in VC6.0, say ABCVC6.exe and another
developed in VC.NET, say DEFVCNET.exe. There are a few DLLs that are to be
used
by these applications. All these DLLs are originally developed in VC6.0 but
some of them are now migrated to VC.NET. So, let's say we have PQRVC6.dll
and XYZVCNET.dll.

I figured out what was causing the "Access is Denied" error when
calling functions from referenced DLLs in my service. I've tried to
be very detailed, so bear with me.
It turns out that libraries I made myself were not having this
problem, but it only happened with a zip library I downloaded and
copied into my program's directory. When using classes from this
library, my service threw an "Access Is Denied" FileLoadException,
which...

I have a small test script connecting to a MySQL database. It seems to
work, unless I try to use the resource link identifier returned by
mysql_connect();
This works and returns all the rows in the table:
<?php
include("../config.php");
$dbi = mysql_connect($dbhost,$dbuname,$dbpass);

Help!
I recently upgraded my VS V6 to VS 2005 and was unable to build projects
that were perfectly ok under VS V6. Where VS 2005 fails was in the linker
resolving external DLLs, which are Open Source DLLs like "log4Cxx" and
"Xerces C++" DLL libraries.
VS 2005 converted my projects without any problem. Even the proper lib
includes and lib path were captured. But its linker just unable to resolve
the C++ function references.

I have an application written in C that does a lot of low level stuff.
It does a lot of things like casting from void*'s. I want to create a
new GUI for it in either C# or MC++, but reuse the existing code.
The options I've considered so far:
1. Create a new MC++ GUI project and add the *.c files to them and mark
them with pragma unamanged. However, the /clr option does not compile
*.c files, so I rename them to *.cpp, and now they...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...
