Hi, I have a need to read in a very simple xml file and initialized some objects from the data. I was reading on the ms website that .net contains its own XML parser, and it sounds pretty good for what I need. However, to use the code, it looks like I need to compile with managed extensions. Since my project does not use managed extensions, I am not sure what the ramifications are of using them in regards to performance.

Hi, We have a large code base of "regular" C++ code (not MFC, COM or ATL). With VC6.0, we used to compile the "regular" C++ code as static libraries (.lib files), and then we would link the .lib files with an MFC GUI "front end". The "regular" C++ can also run as a standalone .EXE (with no GUI).

Suppose the following: // Unmanaged code class UnmanagedException /* not visible outside of unmanaged code */ { }; void DoSomething() /* visible (exported) to managed code */ { throw new UnmangedException(); }

Hi all, I've experienced a problem when passing a smart-pointer (_com_ptr_t) by value to another function using managed extensions. This only seems to happen if the object is created via new. Can anyone confirm this issue? I wrote a little program that demonstrates this behaviour: Main.cpp:

Hey everyone, I have an issue that requires an urgent solution. I had a look at the Technote above, and it states that the AppDomainUnloaded Exception occurs with ASP.NET when using Managed C++ extensions as a wrapper to Unmanaged C++ calls. I am, however, seeing a similar problem with ASP.NET and my remoting Managed VC++ .NET components. However, my remoted VC++ .NET components do not call any Unmanaged code whatsoever.

After spending more than a day reducing a complicated compiler bug to a simple case I reported it to the MSDN Product Feedback Center as a bug just now. However this bug is completely stymying my development of a VC++ component. Does Microsoft still offer any free bug reporting cases for VS2005, as they did two for VS2003 so that I can talk with a technical representative directly to try to find a workaround for the compiler bug ? While...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
