Hello,
I have a couple of years of experience with C++. I started studying
C++ syntax, then I read the B.Stroustrup's book, and eventually I went
through the N.Josuttis' book on how to program with the C++ Standard
Library.
I am not a professional programmer however I would like to gain more
knowledge of the language to get what could be considered the skills
you'd expect from a professional developer ( I also know Unix

In the stroustrup C++ programming language (third edition) i can
find example like this:
string s1= "Hello";
So I imagine string is a standard class.
Furthermore the class in the example is initialized with a
constructor like this

Now that I have a better grasp of the scope and capabilities of the C++
Standard Library, I understand that products such as Qt actually provide
much of the same functionality through their own libraries. I'm not sure
if that's a good thing or not. AFAIK, most of Qt is compatable with the
Standard Library. That is, QLT can interoperate with STL, and you can
convert back and forth between std::string and Qt::QString, etc.
Are there any...

I need to create a deployment project for a standalone application. I
figured out how to do a regular "setup" project for doing an install
from a CDROM. However, I also need the capability for the end-user
to install over the web.
The online docs has a "Deploying a Web Solution" section, which talks
about creating a deployment project using a "Web Setup Project"
template. However, such a template does not appear to be present
in my...

Help!
I recently upgraded my VS V6 to VS 2005 and was unable to build projects
that were perfectly ok under VS V6. Where VS 2005 fails was in the linker
resolving external DLLs, which are Open Source DLLs like "log4Cxx" and
"Xerces C++" DLL libraries.
VS 2005 converted my projects without any problem. Even the proper lib
includes and lib path were captured. But its linker just unable to resolve
the C++ function references.

we just ordered VS 2005 standard edition. i was reading up on creating
windows services and apparently this is only possible with the enterprise
edition. is this true, or does it simply mean there's no template for
windows services with the standard edition? are there VS templates published
by 3rd parties i can download to ease implementation?
tks

I'm currently a student, but this problem isn't directly related to what I have to do on an assignment. It's just a problem I've had with some supporting features.
First of all, I'm using MSVS 2005 standard edition. I haven't downloaded or acquired any additional libraries or tools, just what gets installed with the studio by default. Also, I'm using C++ and started the problem projects as an empty CLR project.
Currently I've had several...

Excuse the cross-posting, please but no response in "Setup".
When I was using VS 2003, there was a setup project template available. In
2008 Standard, no such template. According to Wikipedia which sources
Microsoft, Standard edition does not have setup projects, only "one-touch"
(not that I can find that either). First question is whether I can do a
setup project with VS '08 standard then where do I get a tutorial on
"one-touch"? Any...

please correct me if i make any mistakes in my assumptions when asking the following questions:
i understand that there are many different compilers for c++. among them is the gnu c++ compiler, part of the gnu compiler collection (gcc). from my understanding, a compiler has a set of rules for syntax and semantics which will...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
