Hi!
I'm hoping someone can help me come up with a 'best possible solution'
for the following problem:
I'm trying to design an addressbook, i.e a storage for adresses. I
would like my adresses to have a random number of fields, all of which
are strings. Futhermore every address can belong to zero or more
categories (ie. friend, family etc.)

Hello,
I have to read and write around one million records from
an external data source to Sql Server2k every night.
That's a lot of I/O. I am using VB6 for this (takes
hours). I am connecting to the external data source with
API's from its object library (as opposed to ODBC in which
case I would just use DTS to pull this data) and just
looping. I was thinking that with VB.Net I could read
this data into a dataset in memory...

Assume you have a grocery store application. An order consists of an order
header with the "customer" info, and multiple "item" records (one for each
thing they ordered). Now, in a regular DB application this is straight
forward stuff. However, I'd like some advice as to how to best take
advantage of classes to make a more flexible application.
I'm thinking about having a "order" class which would contain a "customer
class" instance...

Hello,
I'm currently developing a web service that retrieves data from an employee
table. I would like to send and retrieve a custom employee class to/from the
webservice. I have currently coded the custom employee class and have built
it as a separate library (employee.dll). This employee.dll is being
referenced by both the web service and the windows application.
I face the following problem when I send this class to the webservice.

After doing some work in both Java and ASP.NET, I came back to add some
major enhancements to a PHP 4 application I built several years ago. A
lot of the database access is currently sprinkled throughout the
application.
In the Java and .NET worlds, I would do data access code by creating
classes that would handle all of the data access for each of the
application data entities. This worked great and kept all the data
access in one...

We're designing an app and see two basic ways to return data from the
business tier to the client:
1) Everything in DataSets
2) Fill properties of objects and manage accordingly
Any opinions as to overall approach?
Thanks.

This is a question that someone familiar with ASP.NET and ADO.NET DataSets
and DataTables should be able to answer fairly easily. The basic question is
how I can efficiently match data from one dataset to data in a second
dataset, using a common key. I will first describe the problem in words and
then I will show my code, which has most of the solution done already.
I have built an ASP.NET that queries an Index Server and returns a...

Hello.
I'm trying to find another way to share an instance of an object with other
classes.
I started by passing the instance to the other class's constructor, like this:
Friend Class clsData
Private m_objSQLClient As clsSQLClient
Private m_objUsers As clsUsers

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
