Moving the XmlTextReader.R ead() pointer back to the start?

I'm using the XmlTextReader class to parse an XML feed. I need to search for
elements that may or may not be there; for example, if there was an error
with my request the XML will contain an <error> element. If there was
nothing wrong this element won't be in it. My problem with this is that
after searching through the XML the first time looking for the <error>
element using the XmlTextReader.R ead() method, I can't search for any other
element because the Read() pointer is at the end.

Is there anyway to move it back to the beginning so I can search for other
elements? I've tried XmlTextReader.M oveToElement("s tartElement") and
XmlTextReader.R esetState() but these don't do what I want them to.

Any ideas? Failing that, can anyone suggest any other reasonably efficient
way to read the XML that provides recordset-like navigation?

TIA.

I think the following is a bug in XmlTextReader: I need to process large XMLs, that are typically constructed of many small elements nested in the root element. Each inner element represents a command, so I have to parse and execute them according to the order they appear in the ROOT element. I don't want to use XmlDocument for the entire huge XML, but can use XmlDocument for each small element at the time.

I am hoping someone on this list can shed some light on the below issue for me. I am using XmlTextReader to read from an XML file. Unfortunately, an exception is thrown ("Index was outside the bounds of the array.") when the reader reaches the DOCTYPE. If I remove it everything works fine. Should I be handling the DOCTYPE someway before I read the DOCTYPE? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. I have provided a sample XML...

I have some simple HTML I'm trying to read with the XMLTextReader. As in the MSDS examples, I set up a loop to read each XML node: while (reader.Read()) { switch (reader.NodeType) { case XmlNodeType.Element: Console.WriteLine("<{0}>", reader.Name); break;

While parsing an XML document, my TextReader instance skips nodes. For example, in this fragment: <Person Sex="Male" FirstHomeBuyer="No" YearsInCurrentProfession="14"> <RelatedEntityRef RelatedID="118"/> <PersonName> <NameTitle Value="Mr"/> <FirstName>Clint</FirstName> <OtherName/> <AlsoKnownAs>Mr C Eastwood</AlsoKnownAs>

Hi, the docs say : "The Xml-document is not loaded into memory when using XmlTextReader, as opposed to using the DOM where the entire document is loaded in memory" but, when using XmlTextReader, how can I parse then if the document is not loaded ? something must be loaded no ?

Hi, I am using XMLTextReader class to read the xml files. In some cases xml declaration tag might start after space/tab charecters. These kind of files are supported by the browsers and xml dom's but the xmltextreader's are not supporting to read this kind of files. Using XMLTextReaders is there anyway to read this kind of files. Thanks in advance, Prasad Dannani.

I am feeding XmlTextReader a URL that returns the XML that then gets parsed. The URL forms a query that affects how much data is returned in XML but not the format of the data. The problem is that when the URL string exceeds about 163 characters (strange number) XmlTextReader seems to choke on it and it doesn't seem like any XML is actually being returned and the code throws an exception on reading the first element. Shorter URL strings...

Let's assume I have following file: 2938929384902491233..... 923949919199191919112.... File contains INTs only. What is more they are huge. For example first row in file may contain integer which size is 50MB and the second 30MB. Now we come to my problem. Is there possibility to swap this rows without using system memory (preferably in Unix/Linux)? Is there any function in C to do this?

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
