ATI insists that dotnet 1.1 Must be installed for using several of the
recent videocards of ATI. As a simple user of TV program capture
functionality, I would like to understand what in dotnet is so essential for
doing video capture or tv tuning? Sorry for being so ignorant.

I believe ATI used .NET 1.1 to write their various utilities. .NET is not
required for tv-videocards, per se, but ATI's driver pack apparently
requires it.
P. Jayant,
..Net is in fact a kind an operating system layer as there are more layers in
operating systems. Net makes it easier to make programs for the more and
more extending functionality.
Probably is that the reason that ATI has choosen to implement Net in there
programs. With wich the could make there programs better.
Just my thought,
Cor
My guess would be that .NET is being used to run the add on programs
such as the one that lets you view the Tv schedule ( I have an ATI TV
Remote Wonder ).
I doubt if it's /essential/... just useful.
Anyway, it's an easy install from Microsoft Update -- just look in the
none critical section.

If you go back to the download page you'll notice that they offer two
downloads, one labelled "With Control Panel" and one "With CATALYST
Control Center".
The first one doesn't require .NET but the other one does. This is
simply because ATI chose to use .NET to build that new control center.
You can download the first one and use that and then you won't need .NET
installed.
FWIW, previous versions of the CATALYST Control Center was nowhere near
what the original control panel was so I've never downloaded the new
control center application, but they might have rectified that. Early
versions was missing some vital configuration settings, like monitor
refresh rates while in DirectX and so on.

Dear colleagues
I am going to deploy dotnet framework in our company. For this I need to do
a risk assessment of dotnet framework. Thus I have following question:
Is there an available risk assessment of dotnet framework?
Is there a document which describes what and where exactly is installed
dotnet framework? Which system files are replaced etc.?

I'm trying to install the dotnet framework 1.1 on a Windows 2000 Pro, SP 4
box. I've downloaded dotnetfx.exe and am installing from c:\temp.
This is the error message that I get: Error 1606. Could not access network
location %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Start Menu\Programs\Administrative Tools. The
folder exists and I've given full permission to it to everyone, so I don't
think this is some kind of security issue.
Here's the installation log:

I have been trying very hard at finding details into Microsoft TV
development tools. I was mainly interested in finding if the support is
for both C++ and C# and to try at the downloads of MS TV Content
designer, TV SDK, TV Toolkit for VS.
But I am totally unable to get some tangible information either at MS
site or elsewhere on net.
Can somebody who has worked in MS TV IDEs throw some pointers?

Hi you all out there,
Some months ago I installed dotNET Framework Version 1.1. I
Needed that for a program to work. Since a while I keep getting
reminders from the Windows update site, there's an upgrade/update
to Version 2.0 waiting for me.
As far as I understand, this dotNET Framework- 'thing' is for
better performance of your (IE)-browser and for developers to
write programs.
In the meanwhile, I'm using Mozilla Firefox for...

I am unclear about what all the requirements are to call a simple vb.net
application, installed in the GAC, from COM (such as writing vba in Word to
call the dotnet dll).
I believe I have installed the dll in the GAC. It is in there and has a
public token. I did not create a key-value pair. I believe it is strong
named, as it shows up in the GAC.
How do I browse the objects of it? I would like to call it late bound, but

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
