Notification from a Console app

Can a Console app manipulate the Windows API?

Say I want a console app to do some work, and then, maybe just popup an
alert to say "finished"?

Is there a way to do that without having to create a Form app?

Do I have alternatives for GUI notification from a console app?

Yes, just call MesageBox().

Just do it. :-)

While there are differences between console and windowed applications there
is not _that_ much difference. That's because a console application can
create one or more windows and a windowed application can create a console.

Of course, if your display requirements are many, it makes more sense to
build a windowed application.

Will

Is there a way to determine when the system has performed a garbage collection? I would like to be able to write a console message when the CLR performs a GC. Knowing when a GC happens might help me debug some odd problems.

I've been banging my head over this for a few hours and I'm not finding any good code samples to demonstrate MultiThreading in C# Framework 1.1 that shows me how to basically have the UI code stay separate from the Threading code but allow a return parameter to the UI. I'd like to have something like the following pseudocode....Is this even possible? main.cs {

How would I signal the main app when a thread has completed a task. The thread must remain actice. Every time it reads a given number of bytes it must let the main app know, then wait until more data shows up. The number of bytes it reads varies. Thanks, Bill

Hi, I have a C# test program (setup as a console application) that runs a bunch of other programs like IE / etc. I run this program from a command window, the other windows cover the command window and I cannot see the log being generated. In the program execution, there are lots of delays necessary and many times when the program fails to function properly and has exited, I cannot tell whether it is in a delay loop or has exited (as...

We have been asked to develop and application for a client that is a 'notification" system. We would like to use python, but are struggling to find the right starting point. Any suggestions, tips or sample code would be appreciated. Application outline; Machine A is running a "listener" application that is connected to a another device via the serial post and waits for events. We have not problem working with the serial port, or...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
