I'm new to vb studio .net and sql2k, and wondered if any one know any
good articles on the subject? such as the best practices and
configuration for the database connection and security model. articles
with good coding samples are preferred. thank you!

Steve,

On your question are probably thousands of answers.

Keep in mind that there is in Net not one "Best" practise in general.
Every problem can have its "Best" method.

Otherwise you could probably do only the "Best" practise, what is a
difference with some so named simple to use development environments.

A very good start point for learning is.

Another good resource for your questions is

I hope this helps,

Hi, I have a C# Solution/Application that contain 4 projects. Each of these projects needs at some time to access the same database. I would like to know how to share a single connection between these projects as i assume this would be more efficient than having a separate connection string for each project.

I setup a asp.net project running on http://localhost/ which connects to a database on another server running sqlserver... I was able to connect to the database and create my application no problem. The sqlserver database server had windows 2000 without any SP's or updates. This was no problem and even though the OS hadn't the .net framework installed, everything worked fine. the requirements for that sqlserver database server have...

Is there an accepted strategy/design for database password management? Multiple asp.net web applications all talking to the same database. Each web app is on a separate machine and connectivity between machines is not guaranteed. ***SQL Server authentication is required.*** We currently store the username and password in each web.config file. New regulations require our clients to update their database passwords periodically. Rather...

Is it possible to change the database in which a crystalreports.net report is linking to? we have a bunch of reports made that pull straight form the database server, but work with differnet versions of it (all same table structures) such as live and development. Can you tell a report to execute off of a different database in vb.net?

I am an amateur programmer and trying to move from VB6 to VB.net. I can't figure out how to create a ADO.NET database in code. I know how to create a dataset and wonder whether there is a way to "export" it into a new empty database. Since I am at it: How do you programmatically store a query into an ADO database? I am using ADOX to create an ADO database.

Is there a straightfoward API in .NET that allows for inspection of a database? That is, to look at the structure of the database, without knowing anything in advance about it? For example, retrieving a list of tables in the database. Doing a little browsing in MSDN, I see that the abstract representation of a database appears to be the DataSet class. I also see that I can use "data adapter" classes (e.g. OdbcDataAdapter) to connect a...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
