Hi All,
I've developed a Windows Service that acts as a remoting server (.NET
Remoting). The client(user) is able to connect to the server and start a
program by giving the executable path of the program (in the server) along
with the working directory and the arguments (parameters).
This works fine if I try to start programs whose executable file is present
witin the local drives of the server. If the application is in a netwok
drive,...

Hi,
I read that interactive windows services will not be allowed to run under
Wista. I would like to ask what exactly is the interactive service. It is
supposed to be a service that communicates with desktop.
What about the following scenario: A service will create a thread. This
thread will create and run an UI Windows application that manages task bar
and so on on a desktop. This application will communicate with the service:

Hi all,
I am trying to start a windows application that has a GUI from a Windows
service written in .NET 2.0. I have been searching on this for few days now
with no avail. When using the System.Diagnostic.Process object to start the
application (i.e Notepad), the new app runs and it is listed on the task
manger list, but the GUI doesn't show up in the desktop of the current user.
I am aware windows service (either LocalSystem,...

To demonstrate my problem, I have a very simple VB Windows application. It
has a text box that is used to display a counter, a button to reset the
counter, and a timer that increments the counter every second.
I remote desktop to the computer hosting this application and run the
application. It starts up and displays the counter incrementing every
second. If I disconnect the network cable between the two computers for 10
seconds and...

Hi.
I know my windows service works when i run it in debug mode on my dev
machine.
It also works in release mode on my dev machine. But, when I move the
service to
a production server, it exits immediately with a start/stop/nothing to
do error.
What could be wrong?

Then I need a desktop app that, when runs, bind to the event from the

Hello --
I plan on writing a C# service using VS2005.
If I want my service to have a tray icon, is this typically done from within
my service or do/should I create a controller application and have that run
separately from my service?

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
