Connection to Legacy Application

Hi,
I am a Java prof for last 5 years and have delivered many enterprise
application using J2EE. Now my company is making headway in the .NET area of
the market, and I am trying to sort out few issues.
I have not been able to understand the way my application in .NET should
interact with a Legacy System. Could anyone help me with it?
Thanks

Can you please be for specific about what is a "Legacy System". Legacy is
defined very differently in different subtechnolgies.

Greetings, I am running IIS on W2kServer and am trying to use ASP with some legacy X-Base tables. I cannot get the provider to connect. Relevant code is: strProvider = "Provider=vfpoledb;Data Source=C:\DB2\DDMS\" set objConn = server.createobject("ADODB.Connection")

Using ODBC DSN connection in ASP.net does not work, but same code will execute properly as a Windows application, is this the result of .NET Code Access Security, since user DSNs are registry based? What would be required to allow (ASP.net) Web Application to use ODBC DSN connection? Bravo security (what a concept), Karl Mikesell MCSE

I have a mixed ASP.NET and legacy ASP application. Right now, the .ASP pages use a mix of Hard Coded connection strings and an "Global Included" file. I would like to use the connection string in the Web.Config for all the Legacy .Asp pages. Anyone know of a good way to do this? Here is a snip of my Web.Config (from one system). I thought about doing a simple text search on "DataConnectionString" and

Hi, I have some legacy ASP web applications that use an unmanaged COM component to connect to a third party application. The third part application has moved to the managed code in the current release with backward compatibility with the unmanaged code. In the future releases, the vendor is going to drop backward compatibility and as a result of that all our legacy ASP applications will break.

I would like to create a .net application that still uses a few screens from an old legacy application we have. I can list records from the database in my .net app, but when it comes to making updates I still need to legacy screens as the update logic is very complex. I have found I can use SetParent to "embed" some of the legacy screens within my .net app, but because they are still basically two separate applications clicking...

I have an app that connects to an Access database on a server, a decent server. My app is VB net 2003. There is another legacy app that was written in VB6, which also connects to the database. If the VB6 application is running and connected to the database my net app runs incredibly slowly, around 700% slower. It appears to be a problem with the initial connection time, although I have written some log code which proves my app is...

I'm trying to fix a "sub optimal" situation with respect to connection string management. Your thoughtful responses will be appreciated. I just started with a new client who has a bunch of legacy ASP.NET applications that all manage connection strings in Web.config the same way, like this: This client has one Web.config file per application, and that one Web.config file is duplicated across all environments (i.e., dev machines, test,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers.
