null reference exception in VB calling C++ cout

I have a VB .NET program invoking C++ code through a dll. Calling cout
generates "Unhandled Exception: System.NullRefe renceException: Object
reference not set to an instance of an object". A line in ostream header
file is causing this error.

I used vbc to build my VB dll. Am I just missing a dll to link in iostream
functions?

#include <iostream>
cout << __FUNCTION__ << " exiting prematurely due to errors\n";

I am new to using VB and .NET. Thank you for any ideas here - I've looked
everywhere for an answer!

This was solved by a co-worker:

When we build the C++ dll with /noentry, static variables do not get
initialized, causing problems in std file i/o functions. So, we added
special initializer code to do this, and made some other changes to our link.
See msdn page on /noentry for details.

Hello, So I think the answer to this question is going to be rather simple. Basically I have a pointer to a class, and I want to have a function to call to initialize it. After this function is called, the pointer is still NULL. Here is a simplified version, but basically the same:

I have an unmanaged C++ ray tracer which I am working to put a C# front end on. It runs fine as just the unmanaged code. I have made a MC++ wrapper DLL to expose the required types to the C# project. Things seem to be getting through from the unmaged side to the managed side - the image is being rendered correctly. However, at random points, calls to new are returning null. Hence, when the managed type gets destroyed and calls delete on its...

Hi, this might be intentional, but I don't see a reason, why. Running the program ---------------------- #include <iostream> using namespace std; int main(){

I need (okay, I want) to make a dynamic array of my class 'Directory', within my class Directory (Can you already smell disaster?) Each Directory can have subdirectories so I thought to put these in an array. The application compiles but aborts without giving me any useful information. What I suspect is happening is infinite recursion. Each Directory object creates an array of Subdirectories each of which has an array of...

This may sound very elementary, but can you trap when your object is set to null within the object? I have created a class that registers an event from an object passed in the constructor. When my object is destroyed, I want my object to un-register this event. If I don't then the object would never be destroyed until the object I passed in the constructor is destroyed. I have implemented a Dispose(), Dispose(bool), and ~Finalize...

As explained in "Using pointers vs. references" http://groups.google.ee/group/borland.public.delphi.objectpascal/browse_thread/thread/683c30f161fc1e9c/ab294c7b02e8faca#ab294c7b02e8faca , the pointers are allowed to be null, while references must refer an existing variable of required type. The null is normally used for making optional parameters. But there is no way to pass null reference in C#. Something is missing.

Dear All Hi I have learned when an object is big, I should pass the object using a reference or pointer to it rather than calling by value. In the following code, I don't gain cosiderable performance with call- by-reference vs. call-by-value. Indeed, the perforamnce is absolutely unconsiderable: #include <vector>

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
