I am working on my first .NET development project that involves custom
role-based security per the project requirements. This lead to a general
design issue this week that really caused us some concern. I have described
the situation below because we are very curious to see what other, more
experienced, developers might suggest. The specific classes and fields are
used just to illustrate the concepts.
Our application uses role-based...

Is there a way to set Permissions based on user roles by using some
configuration file for my application ?
I'm coming from a Java background, where that could very easily be
accomplished but although I've searched around MSDN I can't find a clear
answer to this ...
Thanks a lot guys,

S**t for brains strikes again!
Why did I do that? When I met the clients and at some point they vaguely
asked whether eventually would it be possible to have some people who could
read the data and some who couldn't but that it wasn't important right now.
And I said, 'sure, we can do that later'.
So now I've developed an app without any thought to security and am trying
to apply it afterwards. Doh!, doh! and triple doh!

I'm a bit new to developing web applications and I've run up against a
security issue that perhaps someone could shed some light on. Basically,
I'm trying to develop a web interface that allows certain members of our
organization to administer distribution groups in a specific OU in Active
Directory.
So far, I've been able to set up the web app to query AD objects (users,
groups and contacts to be specific). However, I can not seem to...

Could someone who has active experience of assigning Security Policys please
clarify my follow comments...
Having gone through the MSDN documentation on this subject, my condensed
version of the way the security code permissions works is thus :-
1. An Assembly will be mapped to one or more Code Groups based upon the
membership conditions specified within each code group.
2. When an assembly belongs to multiple code groups,...

Hey Guys,
Today we are going to look at Code Access Security.
Code access security is a feature of .NET that manages code depending on its
trust level. If the CLS trusts the code enough to allow it ro run then it
will execute, the code execution depends on the permission provided to the
assembly. If the code is not trusted wnough to run or it attempts to perform
an action which doe not have the required permissions then its execution...

Hi,
I am trying to find the minimum security settings to allow a windows control
embedded in IE have full trust.
If I give the entire Intranet zone full trust, this works. However, this is
very broad and gives the entire zone high privleges.
I tried giving just the assembly full trust (using the full URL for the
DLL), but this doesn't seem to work.

I'm building a new C# web application that will provide my company
some administrative operations that were previously only completed
by tweaking the data in the database.
1. Encrypted password authentication
2. "Group" level permissions that allow permission overrides for specific
users
3. Ability to set permissions to view, edit, and read only - by user or
role.
4. Ability to set permissions based on data - certain users can only see

I have MS Access 2007 (My Database files are saved as .mdb extension). I have no problem to create Users and Groups, and grant them specific Permissions. What I don’t understand is why when I create Password, and Permissions to allow or restrict the access of users and Groups to the objects in a specific Database file, (Ex: for only Sales.mdb) it creates security password for all (*.mdb) files. Some DB files don’t need any type of security...

ONU (Optical Network Unit) is one of the key components for providing high-speed Internet services. Its primary function is to act as an endpoint device located at the user's premises. However, people are often confused as to whether an ONU can Work As a Router. In this blog post, we’ll explore What is ONU, What Is Router, ONU & Router’s main usage, and What is the difference between ONU and Router. Let’s take a closer look !

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...
