WipeDotNet Is Now Available - DOD 5220.22-M Sanitization From Within .NET

BJS
WipeDotNet is a program that I wrote that implements item D of the
Clearing and Sanitization Matrix listed in section 8-306 of DOD
5220.22-M - The National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual.
It provides you the ability to perform secure file wiping from within
your .NET application.

WipeDotNet is supplied as two DLLs:

cwipe.dll - a Win32 DLL writen in C that implements low level operating
system functionality and does the actual wiping.

WipeDotNet.dll - a .NET assembly that wraps the functionality in
cwipe.dll and can be referenced in your projects and allow your .NET
application to perform a secure file wipe.

WipeDotNet.dll provides a single class called Wiper. The Wiper class
exposes two Static (Shared) methods called WipeDirectory and WipeFile.

WipeDirectory takes a DirectoryInfo object and number of passes. It
does not process subdirectories. It also doesn't actually delete the
directory passed to it. It simply is an easy mechanism for you to wipe
all the files in a directory. It returns a Boolean indicating success
or failure.

WipeFile takes a FileInfo object and number of passes. It returns a
Boolean indicating success or failure.

WipeDotNet works on Win 9x, Win ME, NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP,
and Windows Server 2003.

WipeDotNet has two known limitations: it has not been tested (and
probably doesn't work) on NTFS compressed files and it has a max file
size of 4,294,967,295 bytes (4 GB).

WipeDotNet is available now for $29 via PayPal and is sold "as is"
without warranty. That being said, I'll provide a reasonable level of
support through email for anyone who buys it.

I'm learning Tkinter, from Grayson's book and some online sources. I don't know how to find out which color names and font names are available on my system. I'm using Windows 2000. I assume that info is in some file or files somewhere, buy I don't know the file name or directory. Thanks, Mitchell Timin

Hi, Is it possible to 'ask' MySQL using SQL if InnoDB is available and usable? I am writing a GUI database app that has a 'create table' function, I want to give the user the option of creating an InnoDB database, but only if InnoDB is available, can this information be found out from SQL (I'm using JDBC)

Hi, All! I've got a very large table (149 fields -- I know, I didn't create it, and I'm working on changing it...) and I need to add an index to speed up a join query. However, when I run the "create index `index_name` on table(`column`)", MySQL uses every available connection to attempt the creation of the index, and does not allow the web site to access the database.

I built a simple scheduling application using an access db. The relevent fields are eventRoom, startDate, startTime and endTime. When I go to add a new event, what method can I use to make sure the eventRoom is available for the selected date and time slot? Id like to just display an alert with the conflicting times and suggest the next available startTime. Thanks for any suggestions!

gcc 3.3 allowed a typedef for a function pointer to contain default argument specifications; for example: typedef int (*foo) (int, int, int=0, bar=0); However, it turns out that this is illegal and gcc 3.4 prohibits it. Problem: I've got a lot of code that uses this 'feature', and I can't move the default specifications into the function declaration or definition, because they're not visible. This means that I can no longer call...

Hello, I am new to Python. I am having trouble with zipfile.py. On a Linux machine with python 2.4.2 I have trouble opening a zipfile. Python is complaining about the bit where it does a seek(-22,2). Looks to me like zipfile.py is trying to come back 22 bytes from the end of file. # python

Hi, There are more than 1000 defined system calls in the Unix standard specification, however, a majority of them are optional and the availability of system calls are dependent on the OS implementation itself. The question I have is: How do you determine which system calls are available on any Unix/Linux machine?

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
