"Server does not exist or access is denied"

Hi,

I am trying to connect a web service to an SQL Server 2000 database. SQL
Server is installed and started and the database appears on the Enterprise
MAnager window but it does not appear in the Server Explorer in VS2003.NET
IDE window. It gives the error "Server does not exist or access is denied".

I have re-installed both SQL server and VS but have not being able to solve
this problem.

Can someone help me out ? A prompt reply will be highly appreciated.

Regards

Kapila

What's the connection string?
Is the server actually running?
What's the authentication mode? Password, Windows Integrated, Trusted
Connection?

Yes, it is running. We have tried both Windows and Password. But the same
error persists.

Judging from the sheer number of posts on this topic, I'm sensing this is a fairly common problem. Only problem is, I've tried just about every recommendation in all the posts I've found thus far and none have worked. I have XP on my workstation and two servers that run server 2003. I have sql server dev edition on all 3, but only VS.NET on...

Yes, I seen the dozens of KB articles like this one: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q315158 But the problem is that 99% of these are for ASP .NET 1.x and this is .NET 2.x which I just...
