Hi,
I have 5 files open in Visual Studio .NET. When I try to close the
second file, Visual Studio closes too. When I reopen Visual Studio and
then try to close the second file, Visual studio again closes. I can
close the other files without any problems.
So what I wanted to do is find where Visual Studio saves which files
you have open in a certain project. This allows me to modify this
file/part of the registry/???, but I can't find where this is.
Version of Visual Studio:
Microsoft Development Environment 2003 Version 7.1.3088
Any suggestions?

Veerle,
I've had similar window problems in VS.NET in the past. One thing that
I tried and worked for me was to select from the main menu... Window -->
Windows --> Highlight All Windows --> Click the Close Window(s) button.
I can't explain it but it fixed my window issues whereas just click the
child X button did not.

In my application I need a way to distiguish between the following events:
1. When a user closes an MDI child window.
2. When the user closes the MDI parent window which subsequently closes
the MDI child window.
My application does certain logic when the user actually closes the MDI
child form by clicking the "X" in the upper right hand. My application,
however, should not execute this logic if the user closes the MDI parent. I...

I want to catch the Closing event for my form. I created a test windows app
using the wizard. I then create the Closing event by clicking the lightning
bolt on the properties pane. The code is added to the app but my app won't
compile. It generates a "Test.Form1.Closing() denotes a 'method' which is
not valid in the given context" error.

For some reason, when I click the X to close my MDI parent form, the action
appears to be re-directed to one of the MDI child forms, and the parent
remains open. I am then unable to close the application.
What should happen, is that the main MDI form should close, taking the child
forms with it. There is code to loop through the child forms, remove the
controls on each of them, and then close the form, but this code should
execute only...

I've got a program I'm writing that's going to take upwards of 7 hours
to run. In debug mode, the program closes out after almost precisely 2
hours without any error, as if it had just been passed a Close() or
someone clicked the "x".
It's closing out on different records (depending on the load on the
database it's hitting against), so it's not something with the data.
I've compiled, and am running it now on its own, but my question is,...

Hi all,
I've built a custom control that won't contain any inner content. If I
derive the control from Control, then the VS editor will always add the
closing tag when I use the control. I can derive from UserControl and
it doesn't do this, but I'm not sure whether is the best way to do
this.
What is the correct way to make a control that is self-closing (i.e.
doesn't have a closing tag)?

Hello Everyone,
I'm pretty new to VB.NET and I've run into a snag that I'm not really
sure how to get around. I'm writing an application that shows a
splashscreen, then a license agreement. When the user clicks 'I
accept' to accept the license agreement, the form is supposed to load
the main application screen and close the license agreement screen. I
have the following code to accomplish this:
Private Sub btnAcceptEULA_Click(ByVal...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
