Is there a way to set the application binding policy so
that it always binds to the latest version of an
assembly? I'm hoping there is a way to avoid updating the
application's binding configuration every time there is
an update to a shared assembly.

Should be trivial - I want to detect the program version so that I can
take steps to update things to the current version. Pretty simple - just use
Application.ProductVersion
So I install the app on a file server. Various workstations then load the
app and run it. Some workstations are Win98, some are XP. To enable users to
access the program, I share the folder on the server. When my customers
share a folder, the folder name on the...

Based on MK's TSI_SOON (http://www.trigeminal.com/)I've created a
nifty little procedure that - whenever you compact you db you get an
incremental backup copy.
Given that you have a table with version information you get
incremental backups on a per-version basis.
SEE CODE BELOW
Basic idea is: start TSISOON with the options:
1. "compact this db"

I have a VB project with a setup project in the same solution. Each time I
rebuild the setup project, I change the Version number in the setup
project's properties. Is there any way for my VB project to retrieve this
number?

I'm a newbie experimenting with Python. I want to incrementally develop
a module called 'circle'. The problem is now that the file name is used
for two purposes. To keep track of the version number and as the name
for the module. So when I develop the first version of my file I have
to call it circle_a.py. The name of the module then automatically
becomes circle_a. But when I develop the next increment and call my
file circle_b.py the...

Hello
I downloaded Office 2007 for this reason :
It seems, once again, that it is impossible to save any modification
done in a VBA library, from the main project in Access.
The save button remains desperatly grayed.
It also seems impossible to open the library in another Access instance

I have been looking for a more powerful version of GetType(string) that will
find the Type no matter what, and will work even if only supplied
"{TypeName}", not the full "{TypeName},{AssemblyName}"
As far as I know yet -- hence this question -- there is no 'one solution
fits all', but instead there are several parts that have to be put together
to check.
What I have so far is, and would like as much feedback as possible to ensure
I've...

Hi Ng!
My application (version 1 a1) communicates with a service (version 1
s1). Now I would like to update the service and create a service
version 2 (s2). The new function calls within s2 are implemented in a
new interface, which derive from the old one to ensure that an old
version of my application (a1) still works with s2.
If i run my new version of the application a2 with s1 I get a
InvalidCastException (Return argument has an...

Hi, not sure if this is the right place for this but it was definitely the
closest I could find.
I am having trouble with the GetFileVersionInformation/VerQueryValue
functions and was wondering if anyone could help.
All I am trying to do is obtain a string representation of a Version Info
value for a given file. Currently, I am only getting strange unicode
characters, so not sure if my problem is in the understanding of the
functions...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
