Invalid characters when using aspnet_setreg

We are having some problems with invalid characters in passwords when
using aspnet_setreg. Aspnet_setreg seems to generate the registry
keys successfully, but then the asp.net application using the
username/password encrypted with aspnet_setreg won't start properly
because of a problem with the password.

For information, we have a utility that generates strong passwords for
us. The passwords could contain most of the special characters. If
we can find out which characters aren't allowed, then we can get them
removed from the list of allowable characters to be generated by the
utility.

Is there a list anywhere of the characters that aren't allowed in
passwords that are encrypted with aspnet_setreg?

Thanks,
Rich

The idea here is relatively simple: a java program (I'm using JDK1.4 if that makes a difference) that loads an HTML file, removes invalid characters (or replaces them in the case of common ones like Microsoft's 'smartquotes'), and outputs the file. The problem is these files will be on disk, so the program won't have the character encoding information from the server. Questions:

I am unable to load an xml document that contains Chinese characters in an attribute value. I need to load the document into and XmlDocument object and am using the XmlDocument.Load(string filename) method. I get an error that says the document contains invalid characters. The document loads fine with Chinese characters in a node value, but not in an attribute value. I have tried setting the encoding to UTF-8 and UTF-16, but neither solve...

Hello all. I have a problem that is probably failry easy to solve, but I don't know where to look. (Or, really, what to look for.) My customer has a tool (written in .NET) that encrypts strings. They require us to use the tool to encrypt the connection strings to the "real" database. We have had no problem with that. However, they also want to use SQL Server to manage session state, and would really like the ConnectionString to the...

I have a VS .Net 2003 solution that contains 2 projects. Project 1 is an ASP .Net application. Project 2 is an EXE that is executed from another program (no UI). Both projects interact with a SmarTeam database. I used aspnet_setreg.exe to encrypt the username and password for the asp process. I would like to retrieve these values from the registry

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development projectplanning, coding, testing, and deploymentwithout human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
