Assembly, GAC and public token!

Hi to all!
I have developed a web part for SharePoint 2003 that allows navigation in
areas and sites. I have created the assembly with a strong name and I have
inserted it in the GAC. Until here no type of problem. All it works
correctly without any problems. After adding the assembly to the GAC, I can
recover the token of the public key that i use in areas and sites templates
for automatically inserting the web part in the pages when i create the
portal.
In the course of the development I have noticed that sometimes my assembly
obtains a public key different from the precedent. This happens without
changing the SNK file and the version of the assembly.
Any suggestions? I would like to have the same public key value for my
assembly!

Thanks, Alex

This has occurred in MC++, but since there is very little response on that NG, I am also reporting it here in the hope that someone can find me a workaround, and report it to MS. If a __value class with an event is put into an assembly and a __gc class in another assembly, which has an instance of the __value class as a data member, attempts to attach its own event handler to the __value class's event, everything compiles correctly but...

Hello, somewhere i've read that using strong names does assure two things: 1. Assure that the content of the assembly is not modified (that's ok in my opinion) 2. Assure that the assembly is really from the "fabricator" (?) If these two point are correct (i'm not sure), i have a problem with point 2. To assure the authentity of the fabricator, the public key (which is a part of the manifest) has to be checked against a certificate.

I have a method which takes a Token object as an argument in GetPassword below. Token.cs is a custom class in another assembly/namespace. Do I need to add a reference to the assembly containing the Token class to use an instance of that Token object passed in as an argument to the local namespace/assembly as listed below? (eg. using AssemblyContainingToken;) namespace local public class local

Hi all, I have a few questions about restricting who may call an assembly i'm building. First, I have a business assembly on a web server, with Serializable objects that use remoting to move themselves to a data server (which also has a copy of the business layer, and a data layer assembly as well). Assuming this assembly is strongly named, do i need to worry about someone comprimising the web server, decompling my business

I have one of those seemingly simple questions that evades/confuses me. I've created an assembly with bass classes (classes meant to be inherited in other assemblys). In a secondary assembly (my business layer) I created a class which inherits from a base class in the first assembly....so far so good. If I create a third assembly (my UI layer) and add reference in it to the business layer and I access a public variable in the business...

How can I programmatically read the public key token, Version, and Culture values of an assembly that is not yet installed into the GAC, and all I have is the assembly's containing dll file on disk? I have searched, but the closest thing I found is the FileVersionInfo class that lets me get at the *file* version (which isn't necessarily the *assembly* version). What I would like to do is programmatically look at a dll file on disk, and...

I have an ASP project written years ago that I have recently started to try and update. It was written by someone who used to work here before me, and the source code I have is in a major mess. There is just one (of many) DLL file that once I recompile I get the error mentioned above. The located assembly's manifest definition with name '.....' does not match the assembly reference (see snippet for full detail).

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
