User permissions file/directory

Hi all,

is it possible to programmaticall y determine the current users permissions
on a file / directory? I want to check if the user can add/delete files to
a folder.

You need to look into code access security. Here is some info on it on the
MSDN site:

(PHP 4.3.4) THIS IS DRIVING ME NUTS! I have a website where I offer members their own bit of webspace to use and am coding a very simple 'filemanager' that allows a user to upload, delete, and edit text files (members, of course, will not have normal sign-on FTP access to the site - I just limit them to their own folder space). I'm hitting a real problem with file and directory permissions, in that it seems I'm experiencing...

I want to give users the power to edit files from an easy interface, so I create a form and a PHP script called "fileUpdate". It does a reasonable about of error checking and prints out some errors. It uses fileperms() to get the permissions of the file, and it includes that info in any error message. Today I'm getting the following error message. I've used SmartFtp to go in and set the test file's permissions to 777, but in this error...

Hi guys, I'm having a bit of a problem getting a VB .NET console app to run happily as a scheduled task. The app itself generates a bunch of word documents on a file share on another server by reading from a template file and inserting text at bookmark locations (with details pulled from a table in the database). I'm running the app under a regular domain account that isn't an administrator on the server. The read/execute permissions are...

I need to create a folder in the file system owned by an special user created by my application. The idea is that only my app will have permissions to delete and create files on that folder. My app is a redistribuitable one, so i need to create the user and give permissions to my app to that folder programatically. My questions are: 1) Using c# how can i create a new user account 2) How can i asign permissions to a folder to the new...

I store several application settings in the project's "app.config" file. I also have a form that reads these values and displays them in a listview so that the user can adjust them. My question is: can the changes made by the user to the settings values be saved back to "app.config" so that when the application is launched tomorrow, the updated values are used? Since the original app.config settings are loaded to...

I need a little help here please. I have 2 win forms user controls in 2 different projects that I'm hosting in 2 different virtual directories. The controls have been test and operate okay in both projects. Both controls(dlls) have been signed using SN.exe and I've set up the appropriate .Net assembly permissions using those Strong Names The DLL's have been copied to the /bin directory in both web virtual directories.

Hi All! This really is a file permissions problem ... although I'm not sure how to solve it. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I have a series of load balanced servers. Each of the servers is arranged exactly the same and handles file uploads from users as follows: 1) User submits file to www1 server

I saw a recent note here that user file uploads should be directed to a subfolder of App_Data to avoid site recompilation each time a file is uploaded. That worked fine on my development machine, but when I deployed to a test site at my web host, it fails: Access to the path '...\App_Data\PDFFiles\Filename.pdf' is denied. How do I set permissions to allow writing a file into that folder? Is this something I do in my page or site...

Hello everyone, I'm not sure if this is the correct forum for this, and apologies for the length of this question, but I'm desperate for some good advice... I'm in way over my head with file permissions. The directory and files are sitting on a linux server. I know almost nothing about linux. The background: I was given a web share by my IT admin. Initially, the web share had 3 users, myself (as the owner) ,root (the group) and...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
