good getting started info

I am an experienced ASp (classic) and VB developer. My organization will
be moving to DOTNET. I need to get started figuring out the framework, C#
and ASP.NET. (Yeah, yeah I am a little late.) The web and MS site is
*awash* with info. Do you guys have a good starting web site or book or
something that you can particularly recommend from the vantage of an
experienced programmer, rather than a complete newbie?

Thanks

Start with the quickstart tutorial, and have a look at w3schools. Between
the two of them you'll be OK.

If you have the SDK installed configure the QuickStart tutorials...
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003\SDK\v1.1\S tartHere.htm

QUE MCAD 70-315 Training Guide. It is excellent and covers a
broad range of issues and has the advantage of preparing you for what you
would be tested for if you do the cert. Our Visual Studio Developers Group
chose the QUE Training Guides from many that were scrutinized.

Should be obvious:
WROX C# Programmer's Reference
WROX C# Class Design
WROX C# Text Manipulation

Go away for a few days and you miss it all... A few opinions... Programming is a craft more than an art (software engineering, not black magic) and as such, is about writing code that works, first and foremost. If it works well, even better. The same goes for ease of maintenance, memory footprint, speed, etc, etc. Most of the time, people are writing code for a use in the *real world*, and not just as an academic exercise. Look at...

Greetings, I have been working on a software application in PHP for a few years now, and it is finally "ready" for some testing. I was wondering what was the best way to get a solid group of folks willing to provide actual feedback, not just "yeah its great", or "yeah, it stinks.". I am willing to grant free licenses for the software and was curious what other incentives would really prove worthy of the tester's time.

Hello, I am looking for basic info on installing and using MSDE. I am trying to install and play with MSDE on my PC (Win2000). I finally managed to work my way through installation, and named instances but I am finding no information on how to simply START the database engine and get to a sql prompt! I have manually started the MSSQL and SQLAGENT services, and tried running sqlservr.exe and osql.exe (just guessing) without success. ...

Can anyone recommend a good ASP Forum that's efficient? Read this about an Invision Powerboard experience: "...when we recently wanted to buy an license, we found out that the links to their privacy policy and contact page were broken. We tried to contact them about this, requesting information about their privacy policy, but instead of receiving this information, our license was suddenly terminated. And after a more formal way of...

VS.NET 2002/VB I would like to begin learning about DB programming, and I'm not quite sure where to start. Before I add MSSQL 2000 to my hosting plan, the question that comes to mind is, how do I develop a DB app on my local machine? Do I have to buy MSSQL 2000 and install it on my PC? That is way too much money for me (and, I would think, most people), so I hope there is an alternative -- maybe using Access in the dev environment, and...

Hello, This is NOT a troll, it's a genuine question. Please read right through to see why. I have been using Vusual Basic and Classic ASP for some years, and have now started looking at ASP.NET. At first glance, it looks excellent, albeit nothing that couldn't have been done to Classic ASP. I have been through a few tutorials and was impressed with how quickly you can get database info onto a page.

I installed SciPy and NumPy (0.9.5, because 0.9.6 does not work with the current version of SciPy), and had some teething troubles. I looked around for help and observed that the tutorial is dated October 2004, and is not as thorough as Python's documentation. Is there an alternative source of information that lists all the functions and their usage? I tried using scipy.info to get information on the std function in the stats libary,...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
