what tables do I include in data access logic component?

I am trying to create dalc's for the following information:

Each employee may be a member of one or more groups.
Each group must have one or more members.

The following tables have been defined:
Employee
GroupMember
Group

Here are the operations that need to be performed:
View employee info.
Add an employee to the GroupMember table.
View all groups for each employee.
View all employees in each group.
Add a new group.
View groups.
Modify attributes of a group (e.g. group name, description).

I'm not sure how to design my data tier. For example, should the Group DALC contain the operation viewAllGroupMem bers(), or should that operation be in a GroupMember DALC or Employee DALC?

Several months ago I started a thread with the title "What is/is not considered to be good OO programming" which started a long and interesting discussion. I have condensed the arguments into a single article which can be viewed at http://www.tonymarston.net/php-mysql/good-bad-oop.html I fully expect this to be the start of another flame war, so sharpen your knives and get stuck in!

I'm looking for people's opinions and feedback regarding the design of the application tier, and how to best logically separate out the Data Access from the Business Object's. Per the Microsoft prescriptive architecture documents, they recommend creating a completely separate logical Data Access Tier of components. Then creating a separate tier of Business Objects that consume them. My first question is...what does this actually buy you...

Hello! First, I want to reccomend the Fantasticthe article about distributed applications http://msdn.microsoft.com/architecture/default.aspx?pull=/library/en-us/dnbda/html/BOAGag.asp I am designing a distributed application with a presentation layer as a windows forms (we think to switch to the web on the future), a Business Logic as web services (which act more like a Data Access Logic Component) and a Data access layer as the...

Hi, I'm working with the ObjectDatasource and the application is getting more and more chatty. Is there a way I could make the ObjectDatasource support multiple DataTables that could be retrieved as one Dataset? I'm wondering how others out there work with ObjectDatasource? The only option I now see to get this fixed is to manually make the call to the Web services, retrieve the Dataset and assign the datatable to the controls (Or can...

Hopefully this will make some sense.. I have a database that has around 50 tables - I thought about putting each table in a class and the data connection in a class then I could manage the (tables) classes with one data connection. The business logic would open the database class then whatever table class is needed, the close the tables and the connection. The other way would be to open a data connection in each class. Since mutiple...

Greetings, I am developing this N-tier business app. The problem I'm facing is when I try to pass business objects (employees, dept..etc) from business tier to data tier,i.e., the add method in the data tier expects business object from the business tier, I get an error saying: Can not covert businesslayer.emp to businesslayer.emp

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM). In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules. He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms. Adolph will...
