When initially loaded, my web application (below) takes ~120000 milliseconds
to open its connection. But repeated executions take 0 milliseconds each.
But when I wait for approx. 5 minutes and try again, it takes another 120000
milliseconds for Open(). This behavior gets really irritating with the real
web application that I'm working on.
But the thing I don't understand is, when I make a console app that does the
same sort of thing, the...

It's still not working - is still looking for the Database in the same
folder as the photo just added.
But i've realised something... bear with me here! :)
The basics of the way my photo album works is as follows:
- A database containing photo_id (as a primary key), location
(location of photo on disk), caption etc are contained in a table in a
Database (photoDB.mdb) in the Debug folder of the project

I'm experiencing a problem with sockets, and I'm really hoping someone can
help me, please and thank you.
I've written a TCP Server, which listens on a port for an incoming
connection. When the client connects, the connection is NEVER to be closed
by the server. The client will send messages as necessary. After each
message the server is to send an acknowledgement back to the client. That is
the client's indicator to send the next...

This works, but it doesn't load the latest version of the xml if it was
just modified without closing and reopening the browser.
Here's the scenario:
I have an xml doc called results.xml. It can contain lots of data.
<Results>
<Data>Stuff</Data>
<Data>More stuff</Data>

We've fooled around with Access a bit, but only using the
single-user store-bought version. It seems to be a good
database - versatile and infinitely programmable - and
can apparently be used as a front end to SQL server if
we ever needed to go that route.
But - is there a client/server version of Access ? Looking
on the CDW site there is a bewildering variety of packages
and licences and such, but we can't figure out just which
do...

I know that windows CE has a SQLCE client namespace but i do not want to use
it because it needs to download my sql tables to a local sql database on the
CE.NET client machine. I would rather have my client do a stright connection
to my SPROC'S running on my sql server and have my SPROC'S do some work or
send back a resulting record. I have hooked the sqlclient in my vb.net app
and here is my code: (* the solution bombs out on the...

I have public methods in a form. The main form calls them, to update
that form's display. This form is like a real-time view of data that
is changing.
But, the form may not exist (it is created / destroyed at user
request). I can check form != null to prevent incorrect access.
But, the form could disappear immediately after the check, before the
method is run. Or someone could click 'close' when it's in the middle
of an update. ...

Thanks to a posting by fellow MVP Steve Foster
On a computer that is running Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, or
Windows XP, an incorrect value is returned when an application queries
the identity column value of a newly inserted row in various versions
of SQL Server 2005 and of SQL Server 2000
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/951937
Now I don't *KNOW* that this affects Access but the KB article states
"Applications that use the...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
