Hi.
I'm new here, and sorry if this has been discussed before; I didn't find it
searching the PHP groups. (I've also read recommendations to cross-post to
the other PHP groups, but if that is discouraged, please let me know. At the
same time, please then let me know which of the many PHP groups to post to.
:) )
In PHP5, you can provide "type hints" for functions, like this:

This question has probably been asked a million time, but here it comes
again. I want to learn the difference between the three type cast operators:
static_cast, reinterpret_cast, dynamic_cast. A good way to do this is by
example. So I will give an example and please tell me what you think:
I have a base
class A
with a virtual destructor, and a
class B
that is it inherits publicly from A and defines som extra stuff.

Can someone explain how to cast an object to a specific type during runtime?
// This line of code tells me the objects type.
System.Type type = System.Type.GetType("string of the type");
// This line of code compares the objects, but the compiler doesn't like my
casting.
return ((type)object1 <= (type)object2) ? true : false;
The compiler doesn't like my casting of (type)object1 or (type)object2.

This has been bugging me for a while now.
GetType isn't availble for variables decalred as interface types, I have to
DirectCast(somevariable, Object).
In example:
Sub SomeSub(ByVal Dictionary as IDictionary)
If Dictionary is Nothing Then Return
Dim o as Object = DirectCast(Dictionary, Object)

Hi there,
Is there anyone that knows how to do the following?
I have a class A and a class B, that 100% inherits from class A (this means
that I don't have other code in class B, than the Inherit statement).

How does automatic type casting happen in vb.net? I notice that
databinder.eval "uses reflectoin" to find out the type it's dealing with.
Does vb.net do the same thing behind the scenes when an invisible cast is
made? Is there any reason why one would use databinder.eval while in VB.NET?
I can see why one might use it in C# so as to avoid specifying the type for
the cast but since this is not necessary in VB.NET, I'm not sure I follow.

Hello,
I am running into an invalid address alignment error on an HPUX box
when I attempt to lookup a value in a STL map. The argument being
passed in is a double, which is accessed from a structure; the map's
key is also a double. The issue seemed to be occuring in the map's
default comparison function so I implemented my own comparison
operator, but then the error continued happening in my new fxn.
Strangely, casting the double I...

Dear Experts,
I need a function that takes a float, swaps its endianness (htonl) in
place, and returns a char* pointer to its first byte. This is one of a
family of functions that prepare different data types for passing to
another process.
I have got confused by the rules about what won't work, what will work,
and what might work, when casting. Specifically, I have an
implementation that works until I remove my debugging, at which...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...
