Debugging - Stepping back into code like in VB6

Hi,

When I was programing in VB6, I found the following debugging feature
very useful.

While running my code and viewing a form, I would switch back to the
VB6 an pause the execution. Then I would step-into the code until my
form re-displayed. I would then fire an event by clicking on a button
or key and VB6 debugging would kick-in again and I would be on the
very next line of code to be executed for that particular event.

I haven't been able to get Visual Studio 2003 to do this, no matter
what I try. Does anyone know if this is possible?

Thanks in advance,

While stepping through an ASP.NET project, I found that data was being inserted into my database even though I was not stepping through the code that inserted the data. I have a single page with inline code. The page has a Datagrid, a textbox and a button. When the button is clicked, the value of the textbox is inserted into the table whose contents are displayed on the page. The problem occurs when I set a breakpoint on a line *IN*...

under ASP.NET, single stepping in debug mode appears not to stop within event procedures. i.e. 1) Create web page with submit button and event procedure for the click event in the code behind page, 2) Breakpoint in the Page_Load, 3) debug the web page and click the submit button, 4) "step into" under debug several times, 5) The debugger does not stop at any of the statements in the click event handler. A breakpoint is needed in each...

I have imported a project from Visual Studio .Net 2003, consisting only of native (unmanaged) C++ code. Debugging was very fast in that IDE, and I didn't even notice a delay when stepping over lines. Now, in MSVC 2005, each 'stepping over' takes between 1 and 2 seconds :( Why is that? Is there anyway to improve the MSVC 2005 debugger speed? I've already configured the project debugger type to Native Only, and I tried to change a lot of...

Introduction This tutorial describes how to use Visual Studio to create a new C++ program, compile/run a program, resume work on an existing program and debug a program. It is aimed at the beginning CIS student who is struggling to get their programs working. I work in the computer lab at the college I'm attending and I see many students who don't know how to use the IDE for best results. Visual Studio automatically creates a number of...

C/C++ Programs and Debugging in Linux This tutorial will give you a basic idea how to debug a program in Linux using GDB. As you are aware Visual Studio doesn’t run on Linux so you have to use some of the tools provided on the command-line. If you hate the command line tools, get over it since you’re bound to be using them at some point in your career. All commands in Linux ARE case sensitive so capital letters are different from lowercase...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
