Can I build non-.net framework (native windows) apps with
VS-.Net?
M. Scott Blalock 3 1627
You'll need to at least have the framework to build an app. Using Unsafe
code you can do a lot, call old .dll's (after all, isn't most of .NET just
an elegant OO wrapper of COM?) etc etc etc.
As an old C++ programmer, there's not a good reason to use VS.NET to write
old school stuff...and no, you can't write anything that won't run under the
framework.

Well, I'm pretty sure that you can use plain ole C++ and ATL or MFC if you
want to, I know I wrote a silly vanilla C app not long ago. You no longer
have access to VB6, but C++ is still completly capable of targeting the
system natively

You can use C++ to build native applications as long as you only use
unmanaged code. To run a C#, VB.Net or managed C++ application, you must
have the .Net Framework installed on the client machine.

I realize this is the php group, but I have a question that recurses
back to my php install.
My objective is a pure 64 bit shared object installation of php 5.0 on
UltraSparc Solaris 9 compiled with the Sun Compiler version 8.
My problem is that EVERYTHING builds great EXCEPT that the 6b
distribution of JPEG will NOT build a shared object, thus gd cannot
include support for JPEG, thus php loses that functionality.

i'm using a vectors of pointers in my code.
using the release build i can add and remove elements aslong as i stay below
a certain vector size (13 in this case, no joke). as soon as the vector tries
to add element 14 i get a runtime error.

I'm an indie shareware Windows game developer. In indie shareware
game development, download size is terribly important; conventional
wisdom holds that--even today--your download should be 5MB or less.
I'd like to use Python in my games. However, python24.dll is 1.86MB,
and zips down to 877k. I can't afford to devote 1/6 of my download
to just the scripting interpreter; I've got music, and textures, and
my own crappy code to ship.

Hello,
I've noticed \INCREMENTAL build option has been removed in .NET 2005.
I want to make an incremental build for my solution.
My solution includes projects written in c#, some of the projects have references to other projects. When I make a little change in one project I don't want all my solution to be rebuilded again - only the necessary projects (This is the reason I have referenced the projects and not the dll files).
When I...

Hi, I'd like to stop command line build by one project build failed.
To do that I've created simple AddIn (see code below), that works fine
for IDE and does not work for command line.
In the AddIn I have only two non-trivial methods:
In OnConnection I add my event handler to OnBuildProjConfigDone, and in
the event handler I executed Build.Cancel.
In IDE - no problem.
When I execute
I see that AddIn works and Build.Cancel is called but...

We have a GCC in /usr/rcf that was not built with --disable-shared.
As such, there is a /usr/rcf/lib/libgcc_s.so.
We also have a (preferred) GCC in /afs/rcf/lang/gcc/current that
was built with --disable-shared. As such, there is no
/afs/rcf/lang/gcc/current/lib/libgcc_s.so and binaries built
with this compiler do not link to any shared libgcc_s.
I have the following problem with Python 2.4.2. I also tried
2.4.4. Moving up to 2.5...

I have an asp.net solution with a web deployment project.
When we try to build/debug, we get the message:
An editor or project is attempting to check out a file that is modified in
memory, which will result in saving it. Saving files during the build process
is dangerous and can result in incorrect build outputs in future. Do you want
to continue with the check out?

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
