hi there,
I am quite interested in making the move from Access to MySQL. I have
grabbed all the software that is needed (MySQL, MySQL Control Center, MaxDB,
etc.) and have installed it all without a hitch, everything is running
smoothly, so far. My only concern is that I am still trying to look at
everything from a Access point of view; meaning, I am trying to find out how
to create forms and reports and what not.
The reason for this is I already have an extensive database put together in
Access. If I go and create the tables from my access database into MySQL how
would I go about creating the Forms, Reports, and other Queries that I
utilized on my Access Database on the MySQL database. (it's late here so my
thoughts aren't as sharp right now...I apologize if none of this is making
any sense..hehe).
Simply put, does MySQL have the functionality for generating forms, reports,
macros, etc. or is it strictly just for the hard data end of things and I
need another program to tackle the rest of the stuff?
thanks in advance 5 1716

MySQL is a database management system. No forms or reports. One thing you
can do is create a data source (you have to download the odbc driver from
MySQL.com) and using Get External Data from Access either import or link the
data from the mysql database. Then you would be able to use Access's forms
and reports capabilities. I don't know what overhead you will incur by going
through Access.

Thanks for the reply Rich. I understand what you mean by using the ODBC and
then importing from Access. But what if I would be in a situation where I
would no longer be able to use Access. Do you know of any other programs out
there that offer the same capabilities in regards to making it easy for the
developer and the user to manipulate and call forth the data from the
database? From a web based perspective would this be something such as PHP?
and if so, what would its equivalent be in a non-web-based application.
Sorry for picking your brain there Rich, I am just trying to wrap my own
around all this stuff. hehe

Hi,
You can use a programming language like VB.NET or C# or any other
language capable of using ODBC database to create an application that
will use your database as a backend. This will allow you te easilly
create forms and "macros". For the reports you can generate them "by
hand" or use a thid party control like Crystal Reports.

Why not use all of your existing forms & reports in Access as they are,
and reconnect the tables to MySQL through ODBC? Then you don't need
another tool for creating all of this. There are some challenges to
get it all to work (see www.mysql.com/doc for details), but when you do
get it there, it works well. This thread has been closed and replies have been disabled. Please start a new discussion. Similar topics |

new server. It had no problem with the former server.
Warning: main(): stream does not support seeking in

MySQL is running with PHP. How could I fix this problem?
Thank you for your advise in advance.

Here's a small "problem" I often run into. The argument names in the
constructor are usually the same as the those I want to store away as
class variables. This example shows the problem and how I use to solve it:
public class Person
{
private string _name;
private string _age;
public Person(string name, string age)

Hello everyone,
I am looking for an algorithm that would take an incremental value and
map that to a case-inspecific alphanumeric string. However,
I don't want the string to simply step through 0000, 0001 ... ZZZZ. I
would ideally like the value to appear to jump around randomly, but
still be traced back to an incrementing value. So, for example, while a
simple standard mapping might look like:
foo(1) => 0000

Hi I have thought about my earlier post, refined it and reposting it. I am actually new to schema designing. I have read few articles about data modeling and started building schemas for real time data. I have done one. I need guidance in my first steps. Just some one who can have a glance at it and can suggest mistakes that I have done. So that I can correct them and learn. If any one have interest to provide little bit of guidance please...

All,
I am an absolute beginner when it comes to web development. I have built a few sites using tools like FrontPage and WebPlus, but when it comes to programming in HTML, XML, .Net etc., I am as green as a new leaf.
The web development tools help me put aweb site together very quickly using templates for layouts etc. I now want to take it to the next level where I can integrate it with databases and run API's to gather information from...

The stream plays back fine in WMP11 with the exception that the stream...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
