How to use VARBINARY with SQL

Hi, I just read in the online MySQL manual that there is a column type
named VARBINARY. IT is what I was looking for, i think. Now I try to
find how can I put (or retrieve) data in this kind of colum from SQL
staments and from the MySQL++ API, i think I found how to do so with the
API.

So my question IS how to manipulate this kind of column with SQL statments ?

Dear All, I have written a stored procedure which returns a Varbinary column from MS SQl Server 7 database. I tried converting the same into Varchar but this will not work in the database. I want the varbinary column in the Back End as a Varchar value (like 0x00000000000003F4) in my ASP. How can I achieve this? Please help. Thanks

Hi, I have been battling with this for days now. If you execute the SQL below you will get the following result: 0x3078303030303030, which is incorrect. It looks like the conversion is more literal than I am wanting. Does anybody know the correct way to convert a timestamp that has been stored as a char type, back into a varbinary(8)? (vb(8) is the suggested data type for storing timestamps) ==============================

Hello I have some problems with converting varbinary to float in T-SQL stored procedure. In my C# application i have table of structures with double type fields. Size of this table is variant. I have to send this table to SP. Because of performance i want to send it only once and whole. So I have to cut this varbinary blob in my Stored procedure to receive structure field values. But I have problems with double fields - conversion from...

Hi, I have a stored procedure which expects a varbinary datatype. How can i pass a varbinary datatype from asp.net directly to the stored procedure. I tried using the Convert function in Sql server to convert the string to varbinary but it gives a different value. Can you give me suggestions on how to approach this problem. The SQL server column datatype was made to varbinary because the data is in hexadecimal format.

Hi I need to convert a single value (based on a stored procedure call) - a SQL datatype of varbinary to be precise - to a 1-dimensional array of bytes in my ASP.NET application. I use a SQLDataReader to make the stored procedure call and if I try to show the return value on the web page it reads "System.Byte". I use the varbinary field in the SQL tabel to store a so called salted password hash. No problem storing it - but the...

What do I set the parameter size to ? I can set it to -1 but does -1 means variable upto maximum size of Varbinary type ? Regards

I am doing some experimenting with serialization (for use with Service Broker) and I am having a problem converting from a .NET DateTime (in the client application) to a SqlDbType.VarBinary (as passed to the stored procedure VARBINARY(MAX)) and then finally back to a valid DATETIME in Sql Server. It seems I have tried everything, but I always get an error when trying to convert the hex value representation of the byte array to a valid...

Hi I moved to SQL Server 2005 (from 2000) and noticed there is a better variable to deal with binary arrays. I hava a table that hold 9 columns of images (BLOB). each array has a different size and can be larger than 4k. I've changed the column data type from image to varbinary(max). After the chnage, the size of the table grew from 22MB to 26MB. Any idea why? I though the new variable should be better.

Hi, I've got an application which is written in .Net 1.1. When I try to write a varbinary(max) field using the SqlCommand and SqlParameter classes I got an exception like this: "The conversion of varchar into varbinary is invalid". When I remove this field from my update statement, everything works fine. The SQL paramter got the the DbNull value.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
