HOW 2 assign resultset to a user variable

I would like to know why am I getting an error when assigning the result of
a query to a user variable?

SET @newClientID = SELECT clientID FROM tblClients WHERE clientClave =
@clientClave;

The code above doesn't work on a Windows server running MySQL 4.0.12-nt.
It does work on a workstation with Windows XP running MySQL 4.1.3b-beta-nt

Hi, I have a web application where there are a number of columns a user can sort on (price, item etc). The database itself is HUGE (around 6 million rows) and even with all the indexing it slows down a bit if too many users start browsing. To be able to sort on a column, the webpage reloads and does a requery ORDERing on that particular column. How can I speed this up? Can I store a wholre resultset in a session variable? I tried doing...

Hi, I have been thinking about how to overload the assign operation '='. In many cases, I wanted to provide users of my packages a natural interface to the extended built-in types I created for them, but the assign operator is always forcing them to "type cast" or coerce the result when they do a simple assign for the purpose of setting the value of a variable. Borrowing an example from this newgroup, the second assignment below ereases...

Question: How do I pass a returning resultset from a nested Stored Procedure (which opens a cursor including option "WITH RETURN TO CALLER") as a returning resultset from it's own? When I execute the top-level Stored Procedure, it executes succesfully, but without any resultset. ========================================================== CREATE PROCEDURE sp_executesql(sqltxt CLOB(2M))

My requirement is such that any user must not be allowed to save the same record twice. For this what I do is as soon as some user fills up the page and clicks 'Save' I invoke a Servlet which checks the information filled in that page with that of the existing records and if a match is found then a message is printed back saying 'record already exists,cannot save twice!'. I am using PreparedStatement to execute a MySql query in my Servlet...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
