MySQL calls 4.1.5 a "Gamma" release.
What does that mean?
Gamma means different things from project to project, but according to
the following web page:
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql/en/Nu...e_Rollout.html
MySQL AB describes Gamma release thus:
"MySQL 4.1 is currently in the Gamma stage (indicating that a production
release is just weeks ahead). At the end of this process, MySQL 4.1 will
become the new production release."
I interpret Gamma to mean that they don't intend or foresee any further
changes, but they aren't yet fully calling it a production-ready
release. The reason is probably that they want to allow more time for
testing to uncover subtle bugs, which might appear only after prolonged
use of the software.
