I thought it might be useful to put the recent lambda threads into
perspective a bit. I was wondering what lambda gets used for in "real"
code, so I grepped my Python Lib directory. Here are some of the ones I
looked, classified by how I would rewrite them (if I could):
* Rewritable as def statements (<name> = lambda <args>: <expr> usage)
These are lambdas used when a lambda wasn't needed -- an anonymous
function was created with...

This is a long post. You can paste the whole message
in the SQL Query Analyzer.
I have a scenario where there are records
with values pointing to wrong records and I need to fix them
using an Update statement.
I have a sample code to reproduce my problem.
To simplify the scenario I am trying to use Order related
tables to explain a little better the tables i have to work with.

Just looking for suggestion on how to do this in my Web application.
The goal is to keep track of what a user has and hasn't read and present him or
her with new material
I am currently doing this by aggregating new content from all databases into a
single indexed database and then saving a timestamp in the account database
(for the current user) that tells me when the user last read items in the
aggregated database.

Hi.
What is the usual and what are the possible fields to use for the primary
key of an intersecting table of a many-to-many relationship?
I would think the typical, most common fields would be to set the
intersecting table to have its own unique primary key. Right?

Just spent some time browsing around here:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/Longhorn/
I can see the benefits from WinFS (as long as we tag all in-coming
data this should be nice, tagging everything could be a tedious
process though) but I haven't been able to pick up the practical
advantages of XAML. From my assessment, XAML will provide separation
of UI logic from business rules/procedures for applications. It seems
like an HTML of sorts for...

Hey there,
i have been learning python for the past few months, but i can seem to
get what exactly a lamda is for. What would i use a lamda for that i
could not or would not use a def for ? Is there a notable difference ?
I only ask because i see it in code samples on the internet and in
books.
thanks for any clarity

Hi
I have to write a multi-threaded program. I decided to take an OO
approach to it. I had the idea to wrap up all of the thread functions
in a mix-in class called Threadable. Then when an object should run
in its own thread, it should implement this mix-in class. Does this
sound like plausible design decision?
I'm surprised that C++ doesn't have such functionality, say in its
STL. This absence of a thread/object relationship in...

Hey all,
This may be the dumbest thing I've ever seen. I'm creating a queryDef in VBA for access. Here's a sample of the query it creates:
SELECT tblEquipment.equipmentID, tblSample.sampleDate, tblSampleResults.Chromium, IIf(=True,'X',(IIf(=True,'U',' '))) AS Critical
FROM (((tblEquipment
INNER JOIN tblCompartment ON tblEquipment. = tblCompartment.)
INNER JOIN tblSample ON tblCompartment. = tblSample.)
INNER JOIN...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...
