We have a dilemma. We are storing our database password in an include
file that resides outside of the web root. The password is in plain
text. So, no one can get that password because it can't be served up
by the web server. So far, so good.
The customer wants all of our passwords encrypted. So, how do I go
about securely encrypting that password? If I use mcrypt, I have to
store a key and an IV somewhere...and if those are in...

Hi!
Im planning to encrypt the password that was stored on msaccess database and
also the text inputed from a password textbox. Also, if I want to get the
password from the database, I need to decrypt it so it can be comparable to
the one that is inputed on the textbox. Is there a way on how to handle
this?

Hello
I would like to query the user table of the mysql database from my VB
application to check that a user's password entered in a text field on a
form corresponds to that users password in the mysql database. However, when
I retreive the password using an sql statement into a recordset, it is
encrypted. How can I decrypt it so I can make the comparison.

How does Windows store passwords that it uses? For instance, when you
install a service, you can provide it the username and password. This
information is stored somehow so that at a later date the service can start
without interaction from the user. Also for COM+ components.
This is what I want to be able to do. I want the ability to store passwords
in a protected manor so that my .NET application can start a secure process
at a...

Dear fellow ASP.NET programmer,
I stared using forms authentication and temporarily used a <credentials> tag
in web.config. After I got it working I realized this wasn't really
practical. I cannot write to web.config so I cannot dynamically update the
credentials while the site is up. Since the
FormsAuthentication.Authenticate() method's documentations claims the
following:
"Attempts to validate the credentials against those contained...

What are my options for *securely* storing/retrieving the ID and password
used by an ASP.NET application for accessing a SQL Server (using SQL Server
authentication)? Please note that this ID and password would be different
than the one the user enters for ASP.NET forms authentication. The
ID/password in question is used by the application, itself, for accessing
the SQL Server.
Thanks in advance.

I store a users SMTP UserName and Password in a settings class, which is
serialized to an XML Settings File.
I need to encrypt the password string in some manner. Does anyone have any
ideas how to do that and still store it in the XML File?
I was thinking of putting the Encryption/Decryption code in the Get/Set
methods of the SMTPPassword Property.

Hello
I'd like to encrypt a customer's organization name to use this as
their password to launch our application, and decrypt it within our
VB5 application.
We will then use this information to print it on every page that the
application prints out. That way, even if some other user gives out
his password, it won't do any good, since the organization name will
be the original user's.

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...
